Do you "speak" when you enter a room?

It depends on the day.

We all kind of come and go at different times. Some days only 1/4 of folks even show up at the office.

I usually won't say anything when I walk into our main office. It's an open plan and IT/engineering folk can be a peculiar bunch. People usually exchange pleasantries while getting snacks or coffee, etc.

There's only 5 of us that work in the satellite officespace, each in our own office. We will usually say hello to each other between meetings.

I like to hire someone to enter ahead of me, Cough loudly and announce me, something like "PRESENTING MR 3 MEN..."

I always greet people by name or say an overall hello when I enter a room. I was taught to do that by my parents. I'm 29.

I didn't before I moved to France, but here everyone says "Bonjour/Bonsoir" to no one in particular whenever they enter a train, bus, room, group of people, etc. It's quite rude if they don't. I still think it's a bit odd, but I do it.

WOW, 2006. I didnt notice until i saw your post. I almost replied!

But since im here........:teeth:

I dont have anyone to say good morning to as im the first one in. If i am not the first one in, I dont feel the need to interrupt everyone with a greeting (as everyone has their back turned to the door), so I just go to my desk quietly. Everyone else does the same thing. For them to see me at my desk they'd have to walk to where i am. Which is a nuisance cause they'd have to go out of their way.

When im leaving, i dont go out of my way to say goodbye to everyone in the office as I find it disruptive to shout "GOODBYE EVERYONE!". I just say goodbye to the person next to me.
Since I was the first one to post here I wonder how that even happened... I only go to posts from the new posts page... That is weird.

I got a "like' on my post from 2006 sometime since the last time I logged on here. But, the same is true now as it was 9 years ago. I have one coworker in particular who is irritating in their "deer in the headlights" look when I approach them in the hall at the hospital. They've been here now for 15 years. When I hear their fakey fake laugh with patients, I think it's all an act. If they treat coworkers like they have 3 heads, it must all be an act with patients...

All our offices (in the Air Force) was always big on saying "Good morning" to each other. Every so often at my last base, co-workers would form a line on either side of the door and as people entered, they'd say "Welcome to work!" and everyone would clap as you walked past. Even the morning grumps brightened up. It was a great way to start the day and keep the bonds between co-workers. It was a pretty big clinic--at least 50 people worked there. As a civlian, I still say good morning to everyone, even if they don't acknowledge it.

I’ll save everyone the time. Yes, it’s a zombie thread. So? Still a good topic.

I work in an office with three people so yes, we all greet each other in the morning. I’m not a morning person but I work with two who are so I just deal with it.

You got the job!! :cheer2: Yay you! I hope it's going well.

In my workplace most of us have private offices but of course I greet anyone whose path I cross on the way in. Who wouldn't - that's rude. :confused3 I guess though I wouldn't really notice because I speak if they haven't already and nobody ever fails to respond.

Always speak, even people I pass in stores or on the sidewalk. I don't expect others to reply in any way...some merely nod and continue on their way and I think that's fine.

I did! My official first day is Tuesday. It’s only three days a week to start, which is fine with me. It will probably turn full time in a few months.

I always greeted teachers and staff every day when I'd go to work. In fact I was so hyper friendly I'm sure I could get the Greeter's job at Walmart. :chat:
Then you should apply immediately in the interest of improving my shopping experience. Our WalMart's eliminated greeters years ago. Now there's a uniformed "loss-prevention specialist" posted at the doors and if you so much as smile at them you get the stern side-eye.

I say hello when I enter a room or office for the first time. At my last job, my boss was horrible at greetings. She would just walk in and not say a word. Our administrative coordinator who was a huge brown-noser picked up on that and stopped saying hello when she came in. The younger employees would always say hello, probably too enthusiastically, LOL.
