Do you understand your spouse's job?

My husband is a student, so I do understand. This summer he’s interning (weld engineer) and I don’t understand some of the metal behavior details or equipment specifics.

I have a hard time explaining to people what I do. My DH does kind of understand but only at a high level. My title confuses people in my own organization *shrug*

Generally, yes. We're in the same profession, and generally in the same practice area. Our work crosses over a lot conceptually.

In a generic sense, yes. The specifics of what's required, I do not know, nor is it important that I do.

Dh is retired and works part time in retail. Yes I completely understand his job since I've worked in retail before. He kind of know what I do, Logistics, but wouldn't be able to explain to anyone if they asked for specifics.

My wife is a 7th grade English teacher. I understand most of her job. I am a software engineer for a company that makes school district administration software. I would say she understands most my job. Neither one of us probably understand the full intricacies involved in either. But we are almost, sort-of in tangentially related fields.

I guess I understand the basics of what he does. Although I think there must be more to it for him to make what he does. Then again I like to think I understand a good portion of what I do and I think its kind of ridiculous that I make what I do...

Generally, yes, as we graduated together in the same field (accounting). She's been in public accounting (audit) for 25 years now, so many of the more technical aspects of her job are well beyond me now, as I didn't go the same direction with my career.

I know what he does...but I have no clue how he does it. He's an IT Specialist and every single thing he does is right over my head.

Yes, I can’t do his job, but I understand the basics of it. Plus he works from home and I don’t work so he vents on me. Then I turn into one of those hairdressers on WallE, "tell me all about it honey" lol

Yep, drive the semi around in circles all day, pick up corn/beans/fertilizer here and dump it there. Repeat.

Yes, but he's retired. Now ask me if I know WHY he does the things he does.

OTOH, he knows my position and can pretty much tell people what I do, with some measure of accuracy.

DH is a Syndication Account Manager - I'll let you all figure out what the means lol because I have never been able to. All I know is he works about 1/2 a day then goes to lunches with bankers or his CFO, out fishing on his bosses boat, or to entertainment venues around town, and works "for real" about one week a month.

He begs to differ :rotfl2:
