I do see an excursion for Trunk Bay so I'll look into that one. Quite a few of the excursions are sold out already.
We went on a cruise ( not Disney) that stopped in st. Thomas. We just walked off the ship and took a cab to sapphire beach, which is far less crowded than Meagan’s bay. When we came back we rode the sky ride thing to paradise point and had drinks lol

I think it's bad if the water level gets so low that it sucks in air (your would hear it)

Hooters has good fried pickles, just sayin'..

Am I reading this right? Guess is better than putting her out to pasture :D
I talked to our pool guy today and he said just add some water from the hose. I didn't know it was that simple. He's been adding chemicals like crazy since we drained it. I feel bad, but I also expected to get 20 freaking inches from Dorian when in reality we probably got like 4 lol

Ok, none that are closed now were opened in the last 24 months.
Based on what you posted you could apply for Chase UR cards...and then can use them to book any hotel chain

If you are open to applying for business cards the Chase Ink Preferred CIP has a 80k UR bonus after spending 5k the first 3 months......if you want to open personal cards the Chase Sapphire Preferred has a 60k UR bonus after a 4K spend in the first 3 months

I am rethinking paying cash for an onsite hotel for our January WDW trip. We really enjoyed Hard Rock at Universal but even being literally a 5 minute walk from the parks we were barely in the room. Has anyone used URs to book one of the Disney Springs hotels? How was it compared to an onsite stay? Was it worth the savings? We are looking to book 7 nights and care most about having clean comfortable rooms, relatively convenient park transportation, and the access to FPs at 60 days and EMH. I know we will still need to budget for the resort fee and Uber to/from MCO.

If we didn't have to get some new furniture ($), fix leaky windows ($$), and replace our breaker box ($$$), I wouldn't be worried about spending the money but I'm looking for ways to cut the budget and if we have to choose between an onsite stay and more TS meals we will pick TS meals!

I do see an excursion for Sapphire Beach that's on my list so that might be one we consider. Right now I'm thinking we'll do the Baths in Tortola and something with St. John for our stop at St. Thomas.

There are 2 in Tortola that go to the Baths. One is $136 pp with lunch and the other is $80 pp without lunch. That's like $50 more for lunch, but I know I'll be hungry. The one without lunch says 4-4 1/2 hours. I feel like I'd be hungry and not sure what I would do for food during that time if we don't have lunch.

I see two options for St. John that look interesting. One is an Eco-Hike ($77 pp) and the other is the Trunk Bay snorkel and beach tour ($68 pp).

We've stayed at one or two of the DS hotels and they're okay. You definitely won't get that Disney bubble feel, but they have the same perks and clean rooms (some much bigger than Disney rooms). The thing I would be worried about is the buses. They don't come as often and some stop at multiple hotels which could take a really long time

I have a reservation first weekend in Dec. for a Pirate room at CBR but now my kids have a concert the Saturday night and I would have to leave 2 of them. I’m thinking of just going to MVMCP on Friday and heading home Saturday. What is this about internal buses? It might end up being just me and my 7 year old and not sure I want to do bus transfers after midnight and the party. I’ve never been to one of the parties.

I didn't check to see if someone already answered, but an internal bus is when there's more than one bus stop at your resort. So at Pop there's one giant bus stop at the front of the resort. At CBR, there are multiple stops around the resort. If you get a room near the end of that loop you might have a long wait to get off the bus (and vice versa waiting to get on the bus)

Sorry, Haley, that is not quite right. An Internal Bus is one that only goes around that particular resort. It is a way to get from one point in a large resort to another. CBR’s internal bus goes around that resort only. It does not go to a park. But you can get from the bus stop closest to your room back to the pool or food court. It makes getting around larger resorts easier for guests in further away rooms.

PO & the Fort Wilderness campgrounds have internal buses too. Not sure which other resorts have them.

Trunk Bay is breathtaking.

The baths is basically like a big state park. I thought it was super cool, climbing around all the boulders.

But I don’t think there’s much food. I’m super cheapo though, so I would skip the lunch package, have a giant breakfast for free on the ship, and bring a protein bar and a bottle of water in case I was really hungry. Then I’d just eat when we got back. There’s so much food included on a cruise, room service and all.

Just got $2.38 via Paypal for the StarKist Tuna settlement. Guess I must have filed a claim some years ago. Whohoo, lol.
What did the chicken of the seaever do to you? [Did not realize that was an actual different brand of canned tuna!]

I forgot about that. They consistently shorted customers a little bit in each can. I think I was supposed to get cans of tuna (or coupons for them). Is that what you got, or was there a cash option too?

Maybe this is the time to mention that I used my credit at CF yesterday. And, I grabbed a Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake. OMG = that was delicious! I had used my previous couple of credits for a burger at SS. CF was convenient yesterday and I had a bit of lunch there and got the cheesecake to go.

Skimming and must have missed this. Chase Freedom has some kinda reward credit going on? I have a CF

Oooooh! My bad I had that confused. I'll go change my original post so it isn't confusing. I was thinking it was just the loop the bus made after getting back from the park. I had no idea PO had an internal bus.

All this talk of teens driving has me wondering what everyone’s first car was???

Mine was ‘91 Chrysler Lebaron convertible. I’m also 5 feet tall and love to do unauthorized investigative work, so I’m basically Veronica Mars.

1984 Pontiac Sunbird convertible (red). I got my license in 1996. Please understand my car was nice tho - had always been garaged, low miles. The car had everything: even a CD player! 1994 was the first year CD players were ever even offered in cars!

I didn't think the $100 on lunch would be worth it either. That's a good idea to eat a big breakfast and then take some granola bars with us. I'll have to make sure I don't get any that could melt. We usually have some with chocolate chips, but I like the oats & honey kind by Sunbelt.

I think the CF they are talking about is Cheesecake Factory

I think @Judique was referencing her $10 credit from the Rose Gold Amex - you get $10 a month at Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris or Grub Hub.

Sharing this IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT for probably the last time.

Sorry to keep posting this but I feel it’s important that everybody see this. Thanks everybody for all the care that had been taken around these issues/recommendations since our initial post on this. :D

IMPORTANT DISchurners ANNOUNCEMENT

The State of the DISchurners Community

On behalf of the 6 moderators of r/DISchurners, I’d like to address our little community here on a handful of topics. DISchurners is approaching its 2nd anniversary and I never could have envisioned it growing into 300+ members. Coupled with the growth on our thread here on the DISboards, we have truly become a large community of friends and churners, brought together by our shared love of credit card rewards points. In addition to our most vocal members, it’s also clear that we have hundreds of others looking to US for information about churning, and that is so awesome! BUT with this growth comes additional exposure and potential risks and the mod group of DISchurners feels that it’s time we address this.

Just to clear, what we aren’t doing is suggesting to take our entire community off of the DISboards. The DIS is how we found each other and it’s how we continue to find new folks to help on this quest. We DO NOT want to squash the enthusiasm here for helping new folks find their way in this hobby. However, our thread can easily be found via google with churning related search terms and we are perhaps too nonchalant in our open discussion of advanced strategies and loopholes.

Advanced Strategies & Loophole Discussion:
I love the enthusiasm around some of the more lucrative strategies and loopholes. However, certain loopholes are starting to be mentioned very frequently and as we’ve discussed before, the more widespread they become, the greater the risk for them to get shutdown. I think it’s time for us to self-police as a community and move these discussions a bit more towards DISchurners. It is the responsible thing to do – we aren’t looking to “hide” the information. We just want to protect it as best we can.

You are certainly encouraged to say things on the DIS thread like “Hey guys, I just posted a neat DP on the Chase Ink Preferred thread on DISchurners”. But coming right out and citing that you got card #5 is perhaps something we want to avoid. As a community, we should WANT people to see important information and be well informed of the advanced strategies that exist. BUT we temper that desire with also wanting those strategies to exist 3 months from now, hence why we’re suggesting this approach. We will be setting up threads on DISchurners for a few of the major discussion items that we expect.

Manufactured Spend Discussion:
Similar to my comment on loopholes, manufactured spend (MS) has slowly crept more into our everyday discussion here. Many folks are new to MS and are eager to learn as much about it as possible. Those that have more experience in this arena will be quick to tell you that locations can get burned and strategies destroyed by folks who are irresponsibly conducting their MS activities. There are also a lot of risks around MS and I’m not sure our entire user base grasps the fact that you can’t get stuck with more than you can float. I would also suggest that we self-police in this arena and gently nudge folks to take more specific MS discussions to DISchurners.

What Card Advice and Strategy Discussion:
Handing out advice and helping with strategy is the activity that the community is built upon! Helping people find their way is great and the fact that people are willing to give back to the community is wonderful. Recently, we’ve noticed a more casual approach to dishing out this advice. This is a reminder that for somebody stumbling on to our thread, it’s important that we balance the advice with proper cautions.

By moving discussions of loopholes and MS off the DIS thread, that will certainly help, as newbies won’t be drawn immediately to advanced strategies that could place them in trouble or cause harm to the long-term viability of these strategies. Additionally, I feel that we should try to balance our advice with cautions about spending beyond your means, incurring interest, and just provide a general care around advocating for business cards. It can be hard to remember what it was like as a new churner, but think for a minute about how “crazy” business cards sounded the first time somebody told you to go for one.

If we adjust our approach a little, people who were just “driving by” will still be able to get a card or 2 and be happy. For those that WANT to dive deeper, all the resources necessary will be provided to them on DISchurners. Let’s encourage new folks to display a willingness to research and learn BEFORE we “spoon feed” the best information we have out in the open. And don’t hesitate to recommend joining DISchurners to all new folks. Our DISchurners group is open to ANYBODY who finds us via the DISboards. We have never denied entrance to anybody.

I heard Reddit is scary and people are mean there:
DISchurners will continue to function as a safe place for all to visit. As a private group, we will maintain complete control over who has access and the only way in will remain to find us on our thread here. While some of the advice there may become more advanced, the community will keep the respectful and welcoming tone found on the DIS vs the aggressiveness of r/churning (for example we won't tolerate disrespect of new folks or asking questions, etc.)

Why Is this being said now?
It’s important to note that this comment is NOT directed at anybody in particular. This is a proactive action before something happens, NOT a reaction to something that has happened. It is the culmination of seeing a group more than quadruple in size over the course of a couple of years. We have assembled a great group of 6 moderators for DISchurners and the consensus was that we need to address things. Our group will likely continue to grow, and it was important for us to set a tone of how we want operate now vs. when we have 1,000+ people frequenting the thread daily.

We also acknowledge that we have no authority whatsoever on the DIS. Anybody can say or do whatever they please so we’re asking the community as a whole to exercise caution and responsibility and help to protect the valuable information that we have. I would suggest that the best way for us to conduct this would be to simply reply to anybody who is sharing “sensitive info” and say something like “Do you think that this information would be better shared on DISchurners”. I’d also probably edit the quote on that reply to exclude any information that you feel needs protected. Hopefully then that user will comply and edit their comment accordingly as well.

In closing, please help us protect the valuable information that this community has to offer. Pay it forward to future churners by being responsible with your approach! The DIS has been and will remain a great home for our general chatter. We welcome any feedback from the community to this suggested shift in approach.

FYI: I will likely post this again as an announcement on a couple of occasions throughout the next week.

Back in the day we were able to get Uncrustables from room service and took those with us. Disney lets you bring on bottled water. Take some of those with you too.

OMAAT reminds us that there are 2 weeks left of the 40% bonus when transferring MRs to British Airways, Iberia and Aer Club.

I NEVER do speculative transfers but I'm considering moving some over - you can get to Dublin from Boston for just 13,000 Avios and $100ish fee. (One Way). A great deal. Anyone else taking advantage of this offer?

Any tips of someone with a poor credit score? (high 500/low 600)? Haven't applied for credit card in over 24 months but was always declined then. Know it wont be possible to qualify for a nice cc with good rewards right off the bat but I'm willing to work for this. Is there some kind of credit builder that gives perks?
