Good morning everyone! How about a little update?
My DD finished her first semester of college ... alive. Actually, better than alive. She grew up SO MUCH in those few months living on her own. She rode an emotional roller coaster successfully, made some good choices, made some poor choices but seems to be rising above the drama. She broke up with her longtime boyfriend (the one we took to WDW in August) about half way through the semester and it was ugly. One of the girls on her floor slept with him after the breakup and that caused a lot of drama on her floor, causing a group of mean girls to rally against my DD. It became very uncomfortable for my DD because her roommate was really good friends with those girls so my DD decided to move from the floor. Then, the roommate allowed the mean girls into their room while both girls were away studying during finals week and the girls rifled through my DD's things and posted "funny" photos on social media. DD ditched the idea of staying in that dorm because the mean girls will still have possible access to her room if the door is left unlocked and will move to a different dorm in a single. We moved her out in December and will move her back in about a week ... probably in the snow.
She's really loving the whole sorority scene. She will be living in the house next year and she says that she will be looking into a leadership position. I'm so happy that she had the sorority during all the dorm girl drama since her sisters were her rock. I'm sure that she would have been lost without them.

Hi I have a dd who is graduating high school this year. I was wondering if anyone has written a successful letter of financial aide appeal for college and would have any tips.

She has a better schedule this semester so I hope that helps her to go out more. No 8am multivariable calculus this semester.
Wishing a wonderful 2nd semester for all our kids.

Quick textbook question: My dd just ordered some books last night. She just noticed that there is a disclaimer that says: Supplements and Access codes may not be included for rental/used books. I'm wondering if she was supposed to buy these books new? Maybe it has this disclaimer on every book? This is thru Amazon if that matters. It doesn't specifically say on her college page that books have to be new. It is a pretty big price difference. I'm wondering if she should try and ask these teachers. Nothing like the last minute doing this. I'm not even sure what I'm asking you guys but I'm wondering if there is a code that she will need but that isn't coming with these used/rental books.

Her professors will let her know the first day if she needs the access codes. They can be purchased then.
My senior DD waits until the first class meeting to get books. In future that could save some. She found that her first semester buying early resulted in books that she didn't use in one case, the professor, on day one completed changed one of the required reading books. Amazon delivery is so quick that it's never been a problem to await. That said, Amazon typically has great customer service and she can probably return if she finds she needed something different.
