Fortunately it is still Wednesday and here comes the review:
We ate her during our stay at DLRP on Tuesday, 2 October 2007. I was travelling with a friend and my sister, all of us in their mid-thirties.
We decided where we wanted to eat the day before and got a reservation for it at the guest services at the Studios. Ideall we would have liked to eat at 7 pm as the park closed at 7 pm, but it seemed that the last seating they accepted was for 6:30 pm. Actually, now I am glad we did not eat there any later as the restaurant was rather deserted when we left, I think there was only one other table still occupied.
This picture was taken when we were waiting for our food:
We were seated promptly when we arrived, however, the choice of table seemed a bit odd, we were in a far corner of the restaurant with lots of still untidyied tables around us. When we were deciding who was going to sit where at the table the hostess picked up that we were talking German (we had spoken English with her before) and asked whether we are Germans. As we said yes she appologized, said she was getting menus in German and dissappeared. On the one hand it was nice to have menus in German, even though some translations were a bit strange. We were glad that we had studied the English menu outside the restaurant quite well beforehand, not only because it helped understand the stranger German translations, but also to have an idea about what to tell the waiter when ordering! Otherwise it would have been quite difficult to translate a menu into English for communicating with the waiter! I would have preferred a multilingual menu for that, really.
Once we had ordered, the service was quite prompt. We had a bottle of rosé wine which was nice and a bottle of water which was eau perrier. It seems to be different from ordinary perrier, but I could not tell how... At least it came in a fancy bottle:
All three of us had the "Sheriff's Menu" for 25 . Here is a picture of the possible selections:
My sister and my frined both opted for the Ceasar Salad:
I had thought about that too, but I am not a great fan of anchovies. I know that this belongs into a Ceasar dressing, but normally it isn't a strong taste. However, thinking that this is still France where they are serious about food, I thought that there might be a chance of a strong anchovies taste if they actually write it on the menu as an ingredient. And I was right! It definitely tasted of it and would have been much too fishy for me! Luckily the other two did not mind the taste at all and seemed to rather like their salad!
I had opted for the beef carpaccio with chimichurri sauce:
This was absolutely delicious, the beef was very tender and really thin (as it is supposed to be) and the sauce was really fresh tasting. I was not sure what was in it, I thought that it tasted a bit like mint, but now I have found out that there is supposed to be mainly parsley in it. The croutons served with it where a bit boring, but we got a basket of fresh bread rolls to go with it:
We were first served another basket, but these were soon taken away by our server and replaced with a new basket with warm rolls! That was a nice touch!
For our main dish, my sister and I chose the steak, cooked medium, she had it with the option of roast grenaille potatoes while I had it with fries, therefore two different steak pictures!
We both thought that the meat was excellent, very tender and very well cooked. They look tiny on these pictures, but actually they were decent sized steaks. My sister was not totally convinced that these were the potatoes of her life, but they can't have been soo bad as she ate most of them. My fries were really nice, not at all as dry as they look on the picture.
My friend had the salmon. It was actually quite spicy, but she thought it was very good.
For desert my sister and I again had the same dish (she was very happy about that as it meant that she did not have to wait around for me finishing taking pictures of her dish as I ahd my own version of it to experiment with it), the apple curmble with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce:
The chocolate horseshoe looked great, but we both did not feel at all like eating it as we were not really that hungry anymore, anyway! However, we both managed to eat quite a lot of the delicious crumble. It was very buttery and rather on the sweet side, but with just enough apples to still keep it fruity and it went very well with the coolness of the ice cream!
My friend had the choclate and praline croquante which was a kind of chocolate mousse cake. If you like chocolate this must be the dessert for you. My friend really enjoyed it, but it was just very heavy after a large meal.
We finished at 7:40 pm and enjoyed slowly walking through the empty Frontierland and nearly empty Main Street (where the shops were still open) and actually see the castle at night once during this trip (at 7 pm park closing it was still very light outside):
All in all we had a lovely meal there. I had wanted to eat there for ages, however, most of the trips beore I had always been on a rather tight budget, so this time it was nice to splurge for a meal! I think I would love to return, of all the restaurants inside the park it has the greatest appeal to me personally.
The theming of the restaurant is great, not only that the room is beautiful and that they have plates with a saloon decoration (see pictures above): the backs of the chairs actually have real cow skin on their backs:
