Possibly as a courtesy to people who are curious in what we think but don’t wanna see the plot ruined. But in fairness if I hadn’t seen it yet I wouldn’t be touching this threadWhy are we using spoiler tags? I thought this thread was clearly marked to discuss the movie openly?
Really enjoyed the movie last night but wished it was Leia that died making the jump to light speed to save the rest of the Resistance instead of Vice Admiral Holdo. Would have been a nice send off for her.

I know I'm not the only one saying this, but they kind of backed themselves into a corner regarding Leia. They've already said they won't be including her digitally in Episode 9, which means she is either going to die offscreen or just not be shown, only mentioned. And neither feels right for a character that important when they had a number of chances to give her the heroic death she'd deserve in this film.
Yeah there were multiple times I felt they could’ve let Leia go in this movie.I know I'm not the only one saying this, but they kind of backed themselves into a corner regarding Leia. It was boring and a disappointment. It could have lost the entire hack the tracker with a code breaker/casino segment that apparently was only there to say, at the end of the movie, the slaves(meek) will inherit the universe . Why did they wait until the last ship to do what they did? They could have done that earlier with the other ships. The little birds were as stupid and useless as Lucas' CGI additions in the rereleases. Cut the forced comedy. You don't have a Han character(actor) that can do it naturally. Just stop. Are they really trying to set up a unbelievable love triangle? This guy got signed to do 3 more after Disney saw that? Sad.
I understand but now not having her at all in 9 means she’s either away and we don’t see her or she died before the movie started. Leia deserved a better send off even if they did it CGI.The movie was already finished at the time of her death and I'm guessing they didn't want to change the movie.
Yeah that would make sense. How they handle Leia is probably the biggest question going into 9 right now.Agreed. Going off speculation here, but it definitely feels like each film in this series was meant as one of the original's swan songs before we close out the Skywalker saga for good - Han got TFA, Luke got TLJ and Leia would have seemingly had Ep. 9. But now the best case we get is Leia being on some distant planet, not involved in the fight against her son and just being...there but not.
The reactions to this film are really surprising me. People seemed to like The Force Awakens after seeing it but then realized it was more of a remake.
This film was risky and different and I liked that. This trilogy needs to stand on its own and not just be a remake of the originals with new characters. I think the originals will always be gold standard and what we compare it too. However I think we also need to look at these films as their own trilogy by themselves.
I suggest you stop going to movies of this type, they obviously aren't for you.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I can respect people not liking some aspects of how this film played out (im still processing certain parts of it myself) but what did people want, empire again? If I wanted rehash I could just watch the originals again. The reactions to this film are really surprising me. Which is exactly the job of the middle film of a trilogy. It’s a bridge to the finale.I was glad that I came out of the film asking questions and having a lot of plot twists, rather then being coddled with fan service for two and a half hours
Yeah that’s another interesting point. I didn’t mind killing Snoke off but I would’ve loved to know a bit more about him.Among other things, like why Snoke even existed. They set him up in 7 to be this powerful Sith lord, craft intense speculation as to who he is (Is he Plaguius? Why wasn't he in the originals? Where did he come from?!), answer no questions in the lead up to 8 and then kill him off while still answering none of those questions and with no indication that he'll even be back for 9 or any future film.
If anything, this film attempted to narrow the universe as opposed to expanding it and explaining...anything.
I think you can potentially criticize Disney for using different directors for 7 and 8. I know they have the overarching plot mapped out, but the difference in vision with abrams and Johnson could be to blame for some inconsistencies. (Although the “inconsistencies” didn’t bother me at all really)Yeah that’s another interesting point. I didn’t mind killing Snoke off but I would’ve loved to know a bit more about him.
