You are never to old to be a kid again at Universal.....Nana’s solo trip....kind of live from Universal Orlando and elsewhere in the Universe.

I said before and will again, your pictures are awesome!

Color and sharpness of them looks like professional pictures

Saturday, October 3rd

Today my plan was to get into the two haunted houses. I figured it would be busy today so I showered and scurried out there door.

I skipped the Starbucks stop after I saw the sea of people coming from parking garage.

People were lined up to get in the studios. I went to the far right entrance that is usually reserved for onsite guest during HHN. The line was shorter. It was not a designated line for resort guests just a regular entrance line. Either way it was shorter.

I went to

E1547CD3-ED95-402A-B53B-5E507DBC8C97.jpeg

first. I did the virtual pass, but when I got there they also had Express.

TM said the houses would be open everyday starting today and you could use virtual pass and express pass to go twice through the houses if you wanted.

After Bride of Frankensteinstein I went to

E88C8B98-E382-45BC-B01B-EFDDECED42C0.jpeg

I would like to go through the houses again to give a fair opinion.

After this house I looked over at the Tribute Store and there was a long line to get in. I was glad I did it yesterday.

The park was getting busy. There was a long line for Starbucks. I gave that a pass.

I stopped to watch Bumble Bee dance

FE7B0BA8-7DAB-4B7F-87AC-87D921221F9D.jpeg

Then saw Scooby and the gang

Squigward and the fish dance

Just wanted to add Universal has really gone out of their way to make sure the characters are out for the guests to enjoy. Although you cannot go right up to them for photos like before. There are marked areas for you or your children to get photos with them at a distance.

Stopped at the Five & Dime store that had some monsters on
display.

I picked up map of the

Each location on the map has a haunted Scarecrow. You go in and get your map stamped after you have visited each location. After your map is completed you get a bag of candy. Until today this was only happening on the weekends. Starting today it will be every day.

I don’t care about the candy, but this encourages you to seek out these awesome scarecrows.

I decided to ride ET and get out of the park as it was getting very busy.

I saw Doc

A Troll

Then rode ET which is a favorite and a classic.

There was a line for Bourne so I didn’t stop. I will save that for later. When I left the Park there were still a lot of people coming in.

I had lunch at Toothesome Chocolate Emporium.

I had the Sedona chicken salad and the onion soup. Both were very good. The salad was large and could easily be shared. There was a lot left, but I’am not a fan of bringing left overs back to the room. Pizza sometimes if it’s from resort restaurant I’am staying at.

If you can be there when they open for lunch you have a better chance of getting in quicker on busy days like the weekend.

My visits here for meals have run either hot or cold. When they first opened the food was fabulous. After a year or two I noticed the quality of the food had declined. Today it was good.

The grandchildren like their shakes.

The steampunk theming is nice. There are beautiful displays of colorful chocolates, macaroons, packaged candies and steampunk merchandise.

After lunch I caught the water taxi back to the Resort.

I was walking to my room when I saw the lovely
Mac in the hall.

We went down to Orchids lounge seating area and had a nice visit. It was so good to see her again.

Mac is responsible for helping many people on the the boards here with their questions about Universal and HHN. She the one who answered all my questions about HHN before I started going.

Thank you Mac for all you do in helping everyone.

After my visit with Mac I headed back to my room to prop my feet up and rest. I did a little reading and fell asleep.

About 7 pm I went down to Islands Dining room here at RPR.

It is a pretty tropical themed restaurant. The tables are nicely spaced apart as you can see

1915C01A-5BE9-4351-BF0B-BB487E5D709A.jpeg

The airconditioning and ceiling fans were going strong so I was glad I had brought a sweater.

It was not busy at all. I was seated at a table by the window. It was raining and I was watching people returning from the parks with their ponchos on.

I ordered the Tropical Sunset cocktail and the spring rolls as an appetizer.

The cocktail was delicious. I have had it before. The spring rolls were delicious and crispy and came with a mildly spiced dipping sauce.

and a nice selection of cocktails and wine.
A62EB678-8A51-47CE-BA2D-BDC1FA11F5BE.jpeg

I ordered the General Tao’s chicken. The waiter asked for the spice level I wanted, mild, medium or hot. I chose medium.

6C08CBEB-C455-4613-A6D8-7C76793ED365.jpeg

My entree arrived piping hot. The spice level was perfect. The jasmine rice was delicious and a wonderful accompaniment to the chicken. The chicken was lightly crunchy with just enough sauce.

The portion size is large and with the appetizer I was not able to finish it all, but I enjoyed every bite.

My waiter was kind and attentive.

If you have never tried Islands before give it a try.

A side note here.

The Resorts here at Universal have some very nice restaurants like Amitista Cookhouse at Sapphire Falls. The Palm and the Kitchen at Hard Rock. Sal’s for pizza at Portofino Bay and many more.

The food is very good and a good value for your money. Explore and enjoy.

After dinner I went back to my room did some reading and went to sleep.

Sunday, October 4th

I got up and showered and decided to go to the outlet mall on Vineland. It was raining when I left for the mall.

I arrived right when it opened and went to the Disney warehouse store and put my name in for the virtual queue. I had told my younger sister I would try and get in and see what merchandise looked interesting. She is a big Disney fan and enjoys shopping for Disney merchandise.

You give the cast member your name and cell phone number. When they are ready for you they send you a text and you have 15 minutes to get back to the store or they erase your space in the queue.

The store has become very popular with personal shoppers on YouTube etc. A few years ago I remember coming here with my sisters and there was always fun merchandise and lots of it.

I did some shopping at Vera Bradley and Kate Spade and then received my text for the Disney store. I went to the store and went in and browsed around. The store had been picked over pretty bad in comparison to years past. I did find a few items and made my purchases and left.

to be continued

I was able to get in and out of outlet mall fairly easy and it was still early so I decided to go to Disney Springs. It is pretty close to were I was at.

I was happy to see the Lime parking garage open. It is closer to what I call the front. The World of Disney is not far at all after you go down the escalator. Your temperature is checked on the second level of the parking garage before you are able to proceed down the escalator.

I found the Starbucks and ordered a coffee.

Walked around and decided to have a late lunch at Wine Bar George. I was taken to the upstairs dining area and seated at a table by the window.

They had a brunch menu.

05BF5CBE-6EFA-4B1D-BC6E-10E4A5E45928.jpeg

I ordered their version of eggs Benedict. It had a base of crispy hash browns, then a piece of spicy chicken sausage topped with poached egg and hollandaise sauce.

The food was tasty and it was nice to take my time and watch the folks walking and shopping below.

My waiter was nice and attentive.

After lunch I walked around and took some pictures outside the LEGO
Store.

It was busy here today and there were queues for all the stores. My suggestion is don’t come here on the weekends.

I stopped in Amorette’s Patisserie. They have beautiful desserts here. I decided to buy something to sample and after talking to a CM
there decided on the key lime tart.

I decided to leave now as the crowds were growing.

I stopped by Walmart on Turkey Lake road and bought some water then back to RPR.

I showered and I was ready to relax.

Later I tried my dessert from Amorette’s. It was tasty and not to sweet.

Monday, October 5th

Rested in this morning. I planned on going over to Mall at Millenia for a little shopping and walking around.

I read about Mall at Millenia in one of Schumigirl’s trip reports about 5 years ago and my grandchildren and I have made sure to visit the Mall on our trips to Orlando.

If you have never read one of her trip reports I encourage you to do so. Her trip reports are pretty legendary on the boards here. They are very well written with wonderful photos and information about visiting places and trying new restaurants.

I have had the pleasure of meeting her and her husband and they are lovely, happy people.

So after a quick shower I got ready and out the door I went. I always stop for the temperature check and get my new wrist band for the day.

Mall at Millenia is a very nice Mall.

One of my favorite places for lunch is Cheesecake Factory and it is attached to the Mall.

It was about 11:30 and I decided to have an early lunch.

I always enjoy the Rene’s Special. It’s a plate that has a small salad, 1/2 sandwich and a cup of soup. It is so good. On Thursday’s they have a chicken and rice veggie soup that is awesome.

After lunch I did a walk around. 4EF36ECC-4699-45AD-810D-51F0A28ED4B8.jpeg

I stopped my the Apple Store and was able to ask about some help with my Apple Phone I had bought here. The problem was quickly addressed. They are always helpful.

4DFDAB66-F31C-4EFF-8802-05243C21BF0E.jpeg

I stopped in the William and Sonoma Store and look what I found. They sell these Fortnum & Mason Chocolate Biscuits.

I had watched a food travel show on Netflix called “Somebody feed Phil”

It’s about Phil Rosenthal the creator of “Everybody Loves Raymond”. He travels to different destinations and enjoys local food.

While I was watching his show in London he went to Fortnum and Mason and bought his favorite chocolate biscuits/cookies.

I thought after watching that if I was ever in London again I would try some.

I had one and it was delicious.

My favorite store there. They were temporarily moved to the first floor while renovations are being completed on their store upstairs. I did a little Christmas shopping and ordered a wedding present. They said it would be in by Thursday or Friday and I would receive a email letting me know when to pick my order up.

There Is comfy seating to take a break and rest while shopping.

You can plug your phone in and recharge it while resting.

9FC43963-6CFC-415A-9C82-4579EA790A44.jpeg

There are a lot of nice shops to choose from.

I did a little shopping and I was ready to head back to RPR.

The Mall is not far at all from the Resort.

After a good rest I got up and got ready to meet my older sister for dinner.

We were meeting at Ocean Prime on Sand Lake road. I had read about Ocean Prime in one of Schumigirl’s report and have returned there for dinner when I’am in Orlando.

My older sister lives in a suburb of Orlando.

We met up for dinner at 6:30 pm. The restaurant was a little busy. Magical dining is going on at select restaurants in Orlando until October 31st.

This is an event were the restaurants offer a price fix meal for $ 35.00 and a portion of the money goes to a local charity. This year the charity is “Feed the Need Florida” which does weekly food distributions here in Orlando.

This Event encourages people to try new restaurants at an affordable rate as well as benefiting a charity.

Thank you. You will have a blast.

I’am always amazed at the new technological advances to the phone cameras. The photo quality and editing abilities get better all the time.

Thank you so much for following along. I’am at Universal Studios now waiting for my lunch at Finnegan’s.

My younger sister is a big Grinch fan. She decorates her house and yard with Grinch Christmas things she has collected.

You are right. The decorations are fantastic.

I attended Mardi Gras here in February and it is fun. Theming is awesome. The parade is so fun. The food selections are really nice. You might even get a place on a float to toss beads to the crowds lining the parade route. You will have a blast.

Wow, you had me at, "I'm a retired RN", LOL!
I am a retired RN too and loved my job. I've worked ICU and last homecare and hospice. Loved the work!
I am also someone who loves Universal even more than disney:). My husband likes disney more but I think I may be winning him over to the "dark" side, LOL. I am also on the far side of 60's:)

I have never done a solo trip before and it sounds like alot of fun. I am enjoying you tr immensely and wishing I were at Universal. We always stay at RPR and really like the atmosphere.

Can't wait for more of your tr.

Thank you for your kind words.

RPR is a beautiful Resort. They are so nice here and welcoming.

So nice to hear from another Retired Nurse.

I Usually make a solo trip to Universal every year for HHN. It is my time to be a kid and enjoy the rides and Haunted houses at my pace.

Monday, October 5th continued

After we were seated at our waiter came to take our drink order. We decided on berries and bubbles. It’s like cocktail theater. The waiter mixes your drink at your table and poors it over a small amount of dry ice.

we both ordered the same thing.

The Ocean Prime House salad.

The salad was delicious. All the ingredients and flavors worked so well together.

The entree we chose 8 ounce Filet. It was cooked to perfection.

3D497445-C3FD-4A6B-9018-DD2EBCC16380.jpeg

It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Crusty warm bread and pretzel bread are served with butter. Both are very good.

We ordered A second round of berries and bubbles.

F409184C-78B1-4138-B6DA-84D07BE3504B.jpeg

For dessert we had the 10 layer carrot cake that is served with a pineapple sauce. The sauce is incredible.
I would have never thought of pineapple and carrot cake, but it is delicious.

The dinner and service were top notch. It was a relaxing delicious meal.

I think as we get older we learn to cherish the time we share with our family more. It was a very nice evening with my sister.

After dinner we said our goodbyes and I headed back to RPR for a shower and a good sleep.

I had planned to go to Hollywood Studios to go to Galaxy’s Edge or as others call it Star Wars Land. It is set within the Village of the Black Spire Outpost, on a remote planet called Batuu

My son who is 43 has been a fan of Star Wars since he was a little boy.

Last year when I was down for my HHN getaway I went to Galaxy’s Edge and built him a droid for a Christmas present.

This year my plan was to do some more Christmas shopping and see if I could ride “The Rise of the Resistance”

SPOILER ALERT.

I will have pictures of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. If you are a Star Wars fan and you have not been yet, I do not want to ruin your first experience seeing it for the first time.

Disney has done a remarkable job with this land.

I got up bright and early and showered.

The park opened at 10 am and I wanted to be there and scanned in to try and get a virtual position for the ride.

When I approached the park there was a long line of cars waiting to pay for parking.

This was nothing like What I experienced last week at MagIc Kingdom. The park was going to be busy.

They started scanning everyone in at 9:50 am. Everyone was on their my Disney experience app.
At 10 am the virtual line opens and everyone is trying to get one of the coveted spots.

I gave it a try but did not make it. The virtual positions would open again at 2 pm and I would give it a try then.

It would be nice to ride it, but If I didn’t get to that was ok too.

Off I went to Galaxy’s Edge. You step into a cave like entrance and on the other side you are on a Star Wars fantasy planet

Last year when my sister and I visited we easily moved through the market Place and others areas. This time there was line to get in.

Your probably wondering how does this Mom and Nana know what little I know about Galaxy’s Edge and the merchandise. My grandchildren have taught me well “YouTube”. I watched some real Star Wars Fans YouTube channels and learned as much as I could.

Their love and excitement for all things Star Wars is fun to watch and a little contagious.

I’am looking forward to my son and family seeing it for the first time.

Everything on the buildings is written in Aurebesh in Galaxy’s Edge. Aurebesh was the writing system to transcribe Galactic Basic, which was the common language in the galaxy.

The maps they were handing out last year had the English alphabet and Aurebesh alphabet
translation on it. There were no maps this year.

It was getting close to lunch time so since the park was so busy I decided to go to Ronto Roasters and get a Ronto Wrap.

It is a warm pita with grilled pork sausage, sliced roast pork, peppercorn sauce and slaw. There are condiments available If you want like ketchup and barbecue sauce. I picked up some barbecue sauce. I tried it with out the barbecue sauce first then added the barbecue sauce and it added the extra kick needed.

You could only enter the restaurant from the side that faces the Millennium Falcon. The other entrance was being used as an exit.

Mobile ordering from your phone was only allowed. With a little help from a cast member I was able to do this.

I was using the mydisneyexperience app. After your order is completed then you wait for the message that your order is ready then you show it to the CM and you are allowed to enter and get your food.

There is a nice courtyard to set just to the right that I went to. 1B4BDE9B-3CAD-493A-83E0-DAF8FEA0B365.jpeg

The Ronto wrap was big and and filling. There is a breakfast Ronto wrap available also. It has the the grilled pork sausage, scrambled eggs, Shredded cheese and the peppercorn sauce.

After my lunch I had a mission to get my son a legacy light saber. I went to Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.

There was a line to get in, but there was a separate shorter line if you were wanting to purchase a Legacy Lightsaber.

I was escorted in by a CM to the counter where the Sabers are. The Saber hilts (Handle) come in a decorative box. The the blade is sold separate in two different sizes. I bought the longer one. It seemed more authentic to the movies.

I bought my son the saber of one of his favorite characters in Star Wars. Darth Vader.
I all also bought the Sith Holocron and the Jedi Holocron. These are information storage devices used by the Jedi and the Sith

I bought 2 red Kyber crystals and one of each of the other colors. These crystals go into the Holocrons and contain the voices and information from different Star Wars characters. They will also go into the hand made lightsabers that are made at Savi’s workshop to change the color of your blade.

After my purchases at Dok-Ondar’s I went to the Droid depot to buy some personality chips for my sons R2 Droid that I built him last year.

After my purchases at Droid Depot I stopped by the Star Wars coke Droid cart and bought a thermal detonator Diet Coke.

A little back story on these Decorative coke bottles is that TSA was not allowing these in people’s luggage when they first came out. People were keeping them as souvenirs. They do allow them now.

8A46AB10-5A56-40E6-B736-A8EEC8737E11.jpeg

I sat down for a rest and to enjoy my drink. I decided to open my two red Kyber crystals to see if I was lucky enough to get an black Obsidian crystal.

And I was lucky

BEED4F20-9D33-455B-B2F8-6F29BF614632.jpeg

A little back story on the Obsidian crystals. When Galaxy’s Edge opened all the red crystals were in clear packaged tubes like the other crystals.

The Star Wars fans found out how rare finding an Obsidian crystal was and would pick up the tubes and shine their phone lights through them to find them. Disney got hip to this quickly and started wrapping all the red Kyber crystals in black paper.

The CM said 1 in 100 red Kyber Crystal tubes contain a Obsidian crystal. So I felt very lucky.

Even though the crystals are black they will make the blade red when put in the lightsabers that are built at Savi’s.

Savi’s workshop is a place where you can go and build your own lightsaber. I like to call it lightsaber theatre. It looks like an experience every Star Wars fan would want to have for sure.

You can make reservations on mydisneyexperience to build one or try your luck on walking up and getting in. On this day they were Filled up with reservations and were not open for walk ups.

I was taking his picture and he came to the edge of the stage and pointed at me. I was wearing a The Child t-shirt AKA baby Yoda. He said do you think you are the last of the Jedi?
