Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

I've just tweaked some layout details on my www.portorleans.org site, in case anyone's interested. Nothing major, just made the fonts a bit more readable, changed some headline and menu fonts, tidied up the menu layouts for different browser, etc.

I'd be interested to know if anyone on different devices /browsers have any viewing or layout problems, and also whether the iPhone folks still have issues using the top menu. Thanks!

Andre

Looking at it on an iPhone, it works pretty well! The top menu is fine for me!

Well, the good news is that I called this morning to the Central Reservations number on a unrelated accounting issue, and I said, "hey, while we are on the phone, can you check something for me?" and the very nice woman was able to upgrade us to the preferred location--so maybe attendance is low, but either way I am happy, since only yesterday I was told there were no other categories available. Just goes to show that polite persistence can reap results. ;)

I am hoping this helps my DH-- and also helps him change his mind about POR, which he says he doesn't like much ( I know! Blasphemy! LOL) because of the inconvenience of everything. Last time we were "way" in the back (I'm sorry, I just don't find the walking from any point in the resort that big a deal) but one bummer was that our room was right by a smoking area and so that meant not being able to open windows, and the smoke came in through the A/C.

He's a big Deluxe resort guy, and that's fabulous--but to me I would rather go more often while the grands are young rather than every three years to stay at the $$$$$ deluxe resorts.

Oh well. He is entitled to his opinion. As long as I still get my way, that is. :thumbsup2

We are with you on the cost of Mods vs deluxes. Hope your DHs back gets better, I would definately request a ground floor room. The AB buildings do not have elevators and even though its only 1 flight of stairs, with a bad back that would be more painful, speaking from experience:thumbsup2

Great, I'm glad if that issue has been resolved. Which version of iOS are you using by the way, the latest iPhone 6 one or an earlier version? (And did you still see the red warning banner at the top of the main page saying that iPhones may have problems?). Thanks.

I have an iPhone 5, with 8.1.1. I did still see the warning.

It also worked well for me and the layout looked great on my iPhone. I didn't have any trouble navigating and downloading the pages and maps. I'm excited to take a closer look at this resource as I'm exploring some different resort options for my family. Thank you for this great resource!

ETA: I was using my iPhone 6.

I also wanted to say HI to Andre, Venomhatch, and Sue who have always been very kind on these boards.
Is it possible to have a "forum-crush" on these fine folks? Because I do! Thank you for all of your insight, tips, kindness, and overall "eager to help" attitude on every page! Very appreciated!

LOL, not quite sure how to take that! :)

Many thanks for the compliments anyway, I'm glad that I and the others here have been able to help you.

As the menus do now seem to be working OK on iPhones, I might remove the warning message now - unless anyone is still experiencing any issues?

Sadly it's not something I can easily test myself as I (and most of the folks I know) are Android people, and the free testing websites mostly seem to just do basic emulation as a browser size rather than really test device screen-taps, etc.

iPhone 5 most menus seem to work with the exception of the one for Fultons. I get the Please pardon our apperence message.

Glad you were able to get the preferred location. I'd still send a fax 4or5 days before arrival, explain situation and ask for a location as close as possible to main buildings/bus depot. Bldg 14. And first floor. I think the room assignors knowing there's a medical problem will help them understand what you need.

I agree, we've stayed at just about every deluxe and still get excited returning to ️POR.

Does anyone have any pictures of the water slide at Ole Man's Island? We are trying to decide between CBR (standard) and POR (Royal Guest room), but my kids love the pool area at CBR with the slide and pirate theme. I haven't been to POR since my wedding night in 2001....however I remember it being so pretty with all of the flowers and trees! Thanks!

I have another question! Where are the garden view Royal Rooms located within the 2 buildings? I see standard and water view, but I booked a garden view...not sure what that might mean. Thanks!

Was planning on staying at contemporary or WL. My mom just called and said she also wants to go. This forces me to pay for two rooms. So I think Royal room is in our future. I'm very concerned about the bus issue. Staying mostly on monorail resorts in the past has spoiled me for sure. What type of royal room request should I make to put me close to a bus stop that wont be full. Traveling with a 4 year old and 2 year old. So ground floor would be nice for a stroller. Connecting rooms would also be part of the request.
Thanks guys!

You can do a YouTube search for the Port Orleans Riverside waterslide and there's a great point of view video so you can get a feel for the length of the slide etc.

Well I here for a little time, I had a stroke. It made to by brain. More coming soon.

I'd ask for a room in Oak Manor as close to the East Bus Depot as possible. Look at resort map on pg 1, and you'll see. Both Oak Manor & Parterre Pl. are All Royal Rooms. Oak would be closest to the East Depot on the side next to Magnolia Terrace. It's closer then it looks on the map. I always stay in the Mansion section and prefer either East or North Depots. Main Depot is too chaotic and crowded.
