Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

I haven't read the comics but if they never know how it started, how can they create a vaccine for it? Or perhaps they never do and they just all die in the end?

If there's an ongoing theme in the comic (and TV series) it's about getting over the need to survive and and learn to start living and thrive. I think the remaining pockets of people have accepted there will be no cure or discovery of the cause. Find hope, adapt or die. I'm about 6-10 issues behind on the book, but what continues over and over is Kirkman introducing groups who have learned to adapt in their own unique ways.

I'm not sure the long-term plan for Fear the Walking Dead, bur currently I'm comparing them as:

TWD = The rebuilding of society / community
FtWD = The fall of society

If FtWD eventually starts covering the months/years past the outbreak, I'm not sure what will make that show any different than what's already been covered in TWD.

Thats what I was thinking, Where do they go from here. So up to this point, people are turning and they are figuring out what to do. Society will start to collapse, looting, electricity will go out, people will form groups etc. Then they will be at the point Rick and his group are. Surviving in a post-apocolyptic world.

I liked it too. I really liked the urban feel vs. the country feel of TWD. And I also loved the son's character (name forgotten)! I think he did a hell of a job acting and I truly feel for that character. The mom, not so much. She seems so "hard" and angry. I hope they develop her character more and soon so I don't start hating her. There has to be a back story there that made her the way she is today. She mentioned that addiction is in the genes and kept saying "it's all my fault" so do we think that she had an addiction problem in the past? Or maybe the baby daddy did (or does) and she feels responsible for having children with that man? Anyway, I hope they tell her back story soon or I may just hate her like I hate Carl. (haha).

I don't like the mom but my hatred for her is nowhere near Carl level. There are only two tv people I hate with a burning passion, Carl from TWD and Skylar from Breaking Bad.

Maybe TWD has mother issues. First Lori now this one. She does not seem overly sympathetic, but then again she's been dealing with him and his addiction problems for what seems like a long time. You have to have some kind of shell or you'd go insane. And I took it as the dad had issues. He seems completely out of the picture and the genes comment made me think it was him with the problem.

This is what I thought as well, dad issues. I also was under the impression he had been a druggie for quite awhile, and I think you probably get to the point where tough love is all you can give. Look at the nurse, she felt sorry for him, and untied him, and just like that he took off.
I like that actress, I really enjoyed her in Gone Girl. But then again I really like Carl too LOL.

Is it too earl to start a Death Pool for the characters? Who's a goner?
LOL, maybe a bit. Looks like we still have some other main characters to meet next week first :-).
I have to say I sure pegged Calvin wrong when they first introduced him, wow, that guy was good at snowing people!

I like that they're establishing the characters, but so far there's really no one I can identify with. Kinda don't like any of them. I sort of like Travis (father/teacher) ... but so far I can't figure out why he's with Madison (mom) as she just seems to have all sorts of issues.

Obviously part of the fun will be getting the back story on Madison and meeting Travis' family which will probably shed light on things.

EDIT: also had to add similar to TWD, it's interesting to see how many foreign-born actors are involved in 'Fear' ... obviously using some great American accents.

Out of the very small pool of characters we have so far, I'd say the principal and the sister. For some reason, she strikes me as a character the show doesn't really need. Who knows, we haven't really met too many people yet, really.

I agree with the principle. There was a preview where I think it was the principle, walking down what appears to be a hallway in the school, as what I believe is a walker. Not sure though. I have been wrong with my predictions with TWD. I too think the DD may be a goner.

My dd and I commented on that also. We figure there must be no good American actors anymore LOL?

It's true. They're all too absorbed with selfie's and being a reality star as opposed to being good actors. I was actually just reading an article about this, comparing movie actors from years ago to modern ones and that was the conclusion. No more Bogey, Grant, Stewart or Hepburn & Tracey. We are blessed with the Kardashians, Pattinson & Stewart (the antithesis of Hepburn & Tracey or Bogey & Bacall) etc...

Death pool - I would wager that the Principal will go soon. And it's pretty obvious that the daughter's boyfriend is dead or in dire straits since he didn't show up at the beach and the daughter texted him that he's better be dead (eek). I really hope that they don't kill off the addict son! He's the most deep character on it so far. I loved when he was trying to rationalize what he saw. Either it was the drugs, real, or he is crazy ... and he doesn't want to be crazy. This makes him really logical and flawed and makes me like his character more.

My death prediction...the mom buys it. Then the step-boyfriend has to become the parent not only to his own kid who hates him, but to a meth head and a teenage girl who also hates him.

I feel like Nick is this show's Rick.

I thought it was pretty boring, and I can't like the family at all, the dad is probably the person I like the most.

They were so cliche and boring.

I was cheering for the Zombie in that tunnel.

Interesting!! I thought the mom would become "Rick" since she seems to have a pretty strong start. I like her style. Definitely the principal and probably the daughter eventually, and I'm curious about the boyfriend-it's almost too obvious, like maybe he'll be around again at some point.

Funny or Die had a pretty hilarious post about the show yesterday (it was on FB, not sure if it's on their site). I laughed a lot.

All they need is DNA from the infected which by TWD time is everyone.

I think the Mom is so unlikable, they do say she is hiding a secret so maybe they are making it harder to like her for that reason.

I will say the actor who plays the son(gonna look him up) is wicked good. I think he was the best one on the show so far.

I am in for the duration. I wish they would do a Talking Dead for FTWD but i guess it will be only for the finale. Chris Hardwick said maybe it will happen if the series takes off.

I also like the drug addict son, he was such a good actor. I am not liking the mom either. I like the dad and I think his relationship with his son will come to light soon. I thought maybe one of them worked as a disease specialist or something.

There was one actor, I wont say which one because I don't know if spoilers are allowed, but anyway he looked so familiar to me so I looked up the cast of FTWD and on the web site I looked at, he was listed as being in 2 episodes. So I guess he won't be a regular.
