Cam Newton Insults Female Reporter

It is quite the opposite, she has not asked for anything. She has stated she just wants to do her job without the distraction. She answered the apology question since Carolina said he apologized - she corrected their out right lie to cover his butt.

You need to go look at him when he said what he said, sometimes it is in the delivery not the wording. He is a smug jerk, just remember how he behaved after the playoff loss a couple years ago. He is a horse's butt.

I don't know anything about him and did not mean to defend him as a person. I just think this comment alone doesn't make him stand out from a large number of athletes and coaches. If he is that bad, surely there is better evidence of his horse's butt status.

Didn't the reporter post this on Twitter? I imagine she expected to get some followers out of this. She may say that she just wanted to do her job without distraction, yet actions speak louder than words. She brought distraction and attention to herself and her job.

There are just so many more important things to be outraged about. I am afraid that the term "outrage" is losing its meaning since so many seem to be outraged about everything and anything these days. Some people seem to expect never to be even slightly offended in life. We waste a lot of time and energy on minor issues.

I think one thing that would help is if sideline reporters didn't always have to be so damn attractive. If a woman knows her sports and has a good TV presence, I don't see what looks have to do with it. In a way, these networks are doing a huge disservice to the advance of females in sports by only trotting the pretty ones out.

Right, because attractive women shouldn't be taken seriously.
:sad2:

Her 2 big huge follower getting tweets o_Oo_O

I don't think it's "funny" to be a female and talk about routes. I think it's my job.

I spoke with him after and it was worse. I chose not to share, because I have an actual job to do today and one he will not keep me from.

That's not the way I took it. It's no secret that a lot of female sportscasters are hired, at least in part, because of their looks. I took it to mean that looks shouldn't matter as much if someone knows the sport. (Although I'm not sure a lot of sports fans will agree with Pacos!)

ETA I know you are from MA. I remember there being some issues with Maria Stephanos when she was with Fox 25 about how she kept the ratings up because she was attractive and people enjoyed looking at her.

I agree. Some people are not nice for whatever reason, get over it. I've seen fellow employees/people/ bosses/ men/women say crazy crap because someone they think is lazy, fat, etc....Nothing new, just keep doing your thing. I too am sick to death of the outrage complex!

Correct. Many of the guys I see in the booth or on the sideline aren't much to look at. So there appears to be a double standard being used by the networks.

The problem is: sex sells. Always has. Probably always will.

So a good looking woman reporting from the sidelines increases the number of viewers. And as much as they may know about the sport? They wouldn't get the job if they were 50 pounds overweight or dressed like a nun.

A lot of the men I see in the booth or on the sideline aren't much to look at. So networks are basically saying "we will hire men for their knowledge and women for their looks (and maybe their knowledge too)."

The lack of public outrage about her behavior, while condemning his "behavior" is a problem.

Disagree. She wasn't/isn't a celebrity, just a journalist. It's pretty obvious to me why her prior behavior wasn't a concern to anyone. Cam is the face of a franchise and has endorsement deals with some of the largest companies in the U.S. If you don't get the difference between the situations, I don't know what to tell you.

And people continue to watch, saying that they either don't care or agree with the hiring practices of the networks.

I'm not a fan of Cam Newton, but if we're comparing infractions, that would warrant a four minute infraction at most compared to some infractions. ;) I'm a woman, but cheating is a whole lot worse than not respecting female reporters. FWIW, we could go back to college & find Cam should have had much greater consequences. The NFL is a totally different situation.

I think disrespecting women is a whole lot worse than cheating at some silly game. It's just a game. We play games, and whether someone wins, loses, cheats - it's just a game and the world doesn't implode. But treating half the earth's population as being somehow less than the other half? That's important to point out and correct.

I wish they had the same standard for the men, at least. I'm tired of looking at fat old men - especially the ones who can't even speak in full sentences, or ramble on and forget what they were talking about. Or have the vocabulary of a gnat.

But the men do - and that's what is wrong with it all. Those fat old men, going on and on about nonsense half the time. At least there's a mute button on the remote.

Yup - the double standard is horrible. I'd like to be able to complain about the fat old men, or wait, I have :)

ESPN tried with Sergio Dipp but then the dude couldn't speak, lol.

im not outraged, I just nod my head and say 'yep, been there plenty'. being a woman, I have been treated like this many times in my profession. I just smile and keep moving, I have pity on the men that treat me like a Barbie doll. oh if they only knew what they looked like.
