New security measure: Do not disturb signs being Removed!

If I’m in the room, the extra security lock is on the door (the equivalent of the top deadbolt, the chain, or the door catch) - so, if someone tries to enter my room while I’m changing clothes, taking a shower or even having sex, they can’t get in. It’s as simple as that.

If your child naps every day on a semi-regular schedule, then let Mousekeeping know that you’ll be in the room with a sleeping child from x-x. You can leave a note, hit the button on the phone if you don’t think they’ve been by, etc.

For whatever reason they’ve decided to suddenly implement this - be it Vegas or dogs or whatever - it’s obviously important enough to make the change abruptly.

If you don’t like it, the cool thing is now you can get the same on-site perks without the daily room visit at a cheaper Good Neighbor Hotel.

I don't think they would ever just barge in, unless it was an emergency or suspect of danger. I think they are just reminding people of this, same as any other hotel.

Could you imagine the media & lawsuit storms that would occur if a WDW cast member barged in on someone getting dressed? It would never happen, unless of an emergency.

I'm pleased with the increased security measures. We were just in WDW a few weeks ago and we encountered several security checkpoints on the way to & at the Contemporary. Metal detector & 2 guards doing bag checks on the walkway to MK. Same thing set up inside the hotel on our way to the monorail. A guy walked past the outside walkway & ignored security's calls to come back, and security ran right after him & escorted him back. Guy was drunk. Personally, I would be fine with Disney scanning guests' luggage as well.

I think most of the sentiments have been covered, it's sad that the world is dictated to by the lowest common denominator and rather than being proactive in their measures, companies tend to be very very over reactive. It is a fine line between safety and privacy, a line that is often blurred.

What are they going to do about Disney Springs? There are a lot of people in a confined space given the design of the flow of people, no rooms to check there!

I have video of the last time I went to Epcot, a real egregious and violent fight occurred that went on for minutes without any security intervention, the best that Disney security could do was send a 70 year old man with a plastic badge to tell them to stop. Terrorist / violent acts don't need weapons to create havoc. There will always be something that happens that simply cannot be legislated for, this looks like just another way that the 99.99% suffer for the actions of the 0.01%.

Already happening and if it continues, yes I think we'll start hearing of some legal actions.

Several reports already but this really bothered me ... a strange man, disregarding the woman in the room calling out to him to wait, walking in anyway, traveling through the room to the bathroom where her girls were naked ............. no excuse for this.

I was bathing my two daughters and my husband went to get ice. We had the new DND sign on the door. While in the bathroom, I heard a single light tap on the door. I thought it was my husband and he forgot to take his key. My younger daughter is only 1 1/2 so I could not leave her to check the door. I called "just a minute" but almost immediately after the knock, the door opened and I still thought it was my husband until a strange man walked right into the room and stood outside the bathroom door. My older daughter is almost 4 and very shy and she started to cry. The stranger explained he was there to "check the room" and continued to walk toward us. I told him we didn't need any service. My older daughter was crying, my younger daughter was crying because her sister was crying, and my husband came back at that moment. The stranger said it looked like "everything was good" and left.

I am not sure what to make of this situation. My 4 y/o keeps asking us to check the balcony for strange men. I am aware of the possible rationale behind this change but I do not believe that this is the way to implement it. My husband went to speak to the front desk but they seem uninterested in listening to his suggestions that they should wait longer than three seconds after knocking, listen for a response from within the room and not approach children crying in bathtubs.

Would you take any further action?

So interesting scenario...

Let's say that the husband pops out for ice, comes back to the room with the kids crying and his wife freaking out with a strange man in the room moving towards his naked children. Husband goes into full defensive mode and assaults the person as he fears something untoward is going on. Cause and effect... I think we all know what would happen, and it wouldn't be positive for the guests!

In completely unrelated news ...

In the two-and-a-half months since the shooting, hundreds of victims and their families have filed lawsuits against MGM Resorts, the owner of the Mandalay Bay resort and casino where Paddock carried out his deadly massacre. Many of the lawsuits allege negligence on behalf of the hotel and its staff.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"Excuse me!"

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"This is guest services!"

(long pause)

"Can we um, empty your trash?"

And that’s the problem. Lawsuits. I know ppl want someone to pay, but sometimes no one is at fault except the person who did it.

Gross. I'm disgusted by the posts on these boards. Accusing - without merit (oh, a first time poster?) - employees of looking at naked children, women in showers feeling unsafe, non-disney employees entering the rooms- this is ridiculous and unfounded and potentially damaging to an innocent person.

I can understand by being annoyed by being woken from naps, etc., but the accusations being thrown about in the other threads are careless and slanderous.

This is what's inherently wrong with the internet.

And I love the internet. :)

Please don't let me be alone in this opinion.

You are not.

And it is as simple as throwing the latch at the top of the door that prevents anyone from opening it.

My sister and her family stay at the Beach Club every year.
They spend a TON of money on Disney.
She posts the "Do Not Disturb" sign the whole time, hates to have to worry about the maids pestering her.
I guess she will make her way to the Swan or Dolphin if Disney implements this stupid policy.

Let's face it, any time you need room service, they don't come.
They usually arrive the minute you walk through the door after being out in the parks.

I hate to tell you, but during our stay at the Swan in October, they knocked on our door in spite of the Do Not Disturb tag hanging on the door.

I also believe they won't be checking every room every day. This is something to give them the authority to check in rooms, just in case they do have a worry.

Simple, right now, i put up the do not disturb sign, they don't knock. With this new system, they knock, wake me up from a sound sleep and may make it hard to get back to sleep, not acceptable.

Exactly this.

I work nights. Even when I'm on vacation, I'm always up until 4 or 5am. If a hotel can't provide a room were I can sleep undisturbed by phone calls or knocks at the door, I won't be staying there.

Really need to see how this plays out. I enjoy having no schedule on vacation. I usually head to the hotel gym when I wake up. My husband sleeps in until I get back. We will be very very unhappy guests if his sleeping in is disrupted.

And in the afternoon he hangs by the pool while I shower. I would not feel safe if there is a chance someone will try to enter my room when I am alone and in the shower.

I guess for now, if I'm in the room I will simply put the latch over so people can not come in until Im ready for them. However, the knocking still bothers me if I'm in the room and needing quiet.

Seems to me if I'm paying for the room (similar to renting a home or apt), that room is for my sole use, unless I have advance notice that you need to enter for some reason.

Perhaps this might work if you are able to schedule a time to have them do the security check, however that would be time consuming for Disney to set up and would defeat the purpose since it wouldn't be random times...

My husband jokes that he will just walk around naked all the time and the first time someone comes in they will be scared of ever returning. Bwahaha!

Also, does anyone think this may also be because of the housekeeping staff being mad that some rooms don't use service at all so they are not being tipped. Therefore they are paid less money? I only thought of it because of union talks and disputes all the time.

Perhaps an effort to force people to say well if they are in my room anyway they might as well clean?

No.

Most likely a response to what happened in Las Vegas.

Not at all.

Just because some people are more than willing to give up their privacy and freedoms for a police state doesn't mean we all are.
(So and so country does it...let's be like them!)

If I'm on vacation I expect security but that doesn't mean my room needs to be "security checked" on a daily basis.
Who is doing the checking anyway?
Is it housekeeper Ingrid from Hungary who barely has a remedial understanding of the English language that's going to be rifling through everyone's things?

Oh and "simple as throwing the latch on the door...," that means anyone that leaves for a few minutes has to come back and knock because their spouse has double locked the door.
Can't get in the shower because the door needs tending...sigh.
In addition, how long until Disney removes the mechanical door stops because of "security measures?"
The dead bolts on many doors can already be defeated with a master key.

Security is a whole lot more than checking rooms.
Why waste resources on a family that arrives through MCO, uses Disney transport the whole time and never leaves the property?
I'm pretty sure you cannot purchase guns, ammo, explosives, or a miniature do-it-yourself meth lab at the store on the Boardwalk.

I honestly thing this is more in place Just In Case. Disney always likes to give themselves leeway to do things. This is another example. They want you to know they can access your room, but it doesn't mean they will.

Not to mention, as someone purchasing something from Disney, we don't get to tell them how to run their security. No more than you can go into a store dressing room that has a sign posted that they are monitored by someone of the same gender, and say you don't like it and they need to stop. You can vote with your money and see if things change.
