My issues with the multi-use toiletries

Well I have become a fan of the H2O products since our recent stay at AKL and I assume this change to what I refer to as bacteria makers are so Disney can save a few more pennies by installing stuff that I will never use. My daughter had read the change was not going to the deluxe resorts so she is using the soap an another bullet in her battle to permanently get me to upgrade to deluxe.
I hope they don't make this change to deluxe or DVC resorts. I've been using H2O products exclusively since our first family visits to WDW a decade ago.

I can usually stockpile enough of the toiletries from our visits to last me until the next visit. (Fortunately I'm the only one in the family to use them.) Running out of toiletries is what prompts me to book another trip to WDW! ;)

I sort of cheated on that. I thought my daughter would use all of them (turns out she has her own shampoo obsession). I tipped Mousekeeping between 5 and 10 dollars a day. Well every day we took the full bottles and put in a suitcase. Well everytime but one that they cleaned they left 3 or 4 of everything. There may be a years worth of the stuff in the bathroom. And I fell so wimpy. A retired Marine liking one soap over another.

I'm betting that is part of the reason for going to the wall dispensers. People stockpiling. Not saying I wouldn't do it if I actually liked the H20 stuff, but I have to believe it is a big part of the reason for the change.

It's always about the money!

We tip $5 a day and they leave quite a few tubes and bars of soap. We bring them home and donate most of it ( I like the sea salt body wash) to a local organization that gives it homeless vets.

I read that Disney recycles the leftover soap, etc.

Disney Soaps Help ‘Clean the World’ Combat Cholera ...

Did you know that soaps and shampoos from Walt Disney World Resort hotels have a second life after their initial use by guests?

Disney VoluntEARS work with Clean the World, an Orlando-based nonprofit, to collect, sanitize and repackage discarded amenities from the nearly 28,000 hotel rooms on Disney property so they may be distributed to people in need worldwide.

All 24 Walt Disney World Resort hotels participate in the innovative recycling effort that aims to improve health and personal hygiene in impoverished areas around the world. So far this year, Disney Resorts have donated 25,710 pounds of soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

Teams from Clean the World are currently in Haiti aiding in efforts to contain the cholera outbreak by delivering more than 100,000 bars of sanitized soap to several orphanages, clinics and schools. Shawn Seipler, executive director at Clean the World, points out that soap can’t cure cholera but it can help prevent spread of the disease. As you can see from the photos he shared with us, some of these items look familiar.

So much for "Cleaning the World" with the change to wall mounted dispensers.

Yikes!:scared1:

What the difference in the bars of soap? I never knew they had 2 types at Disney
So you can't use face soap to wash hands? I'm afraid at 54 years old I've been using the wrong soap on my hands for all these years LOL
I do realize the issues with using hand soap on the face but not face soap on your hands
The bath size is larger. Don’t know if there’s a difference in formula.

I use it for the 2 weeks I’m there. Hasn’t stripped my colour. Only thing I find is the hard Florida water makes my hair yucky.

No doubt. But I think they are shooting themselves in the foot for several reasons:
  1. One of the reasons that hotels and cruise lines provide fancy toiletries with their corporate name on them is to have people take them home with them, be reminded of the hotel/ship at home, and then hopefully book another trip! All that is lost with multi-use toiletries that you can't take home with you.
  2. Many people will be grossed out by the prospect of multi-use toiletries. And while it may be "green," it feels cheap.
  3. As a DVC member, pretty much the only reason I get the daily trash & towel service is to have the toiletries restocked, and the travel-size toiletries cost them a lot less than the $15 I pay for this service. I also tip the housekeeper.
Here's hoping this trend doesn't extend to the deluxe/DVC resorts (or the DCL ships!), or there will be little to distinguish them from the values and moderates, especially for the prices that Disney charges.

I guess I've never even thought to use the provided toiletries. I always bring my own anyway.

Am I in the minority on that?
Nope. We always bring our own body wash, shampoo, face wash, shower pouf and even hand soap due to allergies.
I do like the Sea Salt soap bars they provide in the DVC units and use that while there.

years ago before tsa had the 1 baggie per person rule, i was traveling with my family and i had around 7 baggies of products. my husband went up ahead with our kids while i put the bags through at security. tsa stopped me and said 'this is alot of toiletries'. i said i'm traveling with my family of 5. i pointed them out, he looks down and said 'that's alot of toiletries!' i tried my cutest smile and said 'i don't wake up like this, i need some help' he smiled and said 'ok, but that's alot. another time i was traveling alone and found out the hard way about the one baggie pp rule while going through security. luckily i was in a quiet airport with no one behind me and the wonderful tsa lady gave me a rather big baggie and went through my stuff and said what did not need to be in the baggie. i was so grateful! she understood my dilemma. i like my products!!

We have not flown since 2004. We have taken the train once and driven several times, so we have been able to avoid the TSA rules.

In April, we will be flying to Arizona to visit family, then California to go to Disneyland for the first time. I’m getting nervous about flying. I remember when flying was fun; you got meals; seats were larger and there was more legroom; and you could pack what you want. Because we need to bring our own toiletries, most of which cannot be purchased at a drugstore, I am really concerned. I’m not looking forward to it.

i understand, there are horror stories out there. but i do still enjoy flying. you just have to keep up on the rules i suppose and keep in mind the seats might be cramped and there might be cranky ppl around. key word is might. we all just have to adapt to the changes and keep our eye on the prize... vacation!! :goofy:if you are checking bags, just pack toiletries in there (except any meds) then you don't have to worry about sizes. the wonderful thing is you can ask questions on here and get prepared. and most of the ppl at the airport are kind and helpful. have a great time!!

If the only liquids each person would be bringing is shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc you may consider getting travel bottle kit for each person needing it that you can fill with your own stuff from home that is tsa approved (clear quartz-sized bag, under 3.4 oz for each bottle, etc).
