My issues with the multi-use toiletries

Does this mean we are not getting individual bottles of H2O products when we stay in BWI and GF when we visit in August? I will be disappointed if that is true. We love those products.

For those who are grossed out by community shampoo/lotion etc, think about community ketchup that many people use from restaurants. I use to waitress at a popular chain restaurant, at the end of the night we would pour one bottle of ketchup into another and use a disgusting dirty rag to wipe the tops of the opened bottles. It was really disgusting. I am a ketchup lover and bring my own little packets to avoid the community ketchup. Thankfully, nicer restaurants now bring ketchup in a small ramekin on your dish.

I guess people do like taking "extras" home because I noticed now that the maid's carts are enclosed. You cannot just run up and take something you are in need of.

We also request more toiletry products because we are a family of 5 and my daughter and I have long hair. There is no way 1 shampoo is enough for 5 people. I always call to request more, Disney resorts aren't inexpensive, they can provide a few toiletry items to their guests.

Catsup bottle consolidation has been the norm for many a decade in restaurants but but I don't recall using dirty rags to clean them. Yucky poo!

I actually use a napkin to hold the bottle and open it. I guess I've always figured that the ketchup inside the bottle was clean. I do the same with the salt and pepper.

Yes, when when you pour one into the other it drips down the top sometimes. We were a bunch of college kids working there and the rags that were used to wipe the tops were beyond gross. One of those memories that you always remember. Lol

I had a bad experience with these big bottles last week when I stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort. As I started my shower, I realized that both the conditioner and body wash bottles were empty. I called Housekeeping and let them know. I was on my way out to the parks, so I told them to go ahead and refill them while I was gone. I came back and saw that they were filled, but the locking mechanism was either broken or not locked, so now all 3 bottles were loose and in danger of falling out when I used them. So now I am not a fan of these! Lesson learned - Check that all bottles aren't empty before you shower!

That is so annoying. You would think the mousekeepers check them. Also, there is always a guest who is going to have them go empty on them. If there are 5 people in the room, there would have to be enough shampoo etc. in the container for it not to run out on someone who is showering. I am not a big fan of this.

The only toiletry I pack is my face cleanser and I don't even always bring that. I prefer to pack as light as possible and avoid any liquids.

I agree to this too, I couldn't even imagine using a hotel bathtub to soak.

I predict that some day we'll all see the patched areas on the walls in the shower stalls where those ill advised, poorly thought out, ignorant excuse for customer convenience's used to reside.

It has happened before when they tried this.

They have invested a lot more this go round so I wouldn't expect to see it disappear unless guests start taking the large bottles, or emptying them while there or breaking the holders. Only when it costs them more than budgeted will they look at other options.

It won't take long for the bottle pumps to give out, the bottles crack, the holders get torn from the wall, the complaints about empty bottles, and the general headaches of keeping them filled by the housekeeping staff to take it's toll on the Staff and Managers and the dispensers will be viewed as a PITA by everyone who has to deal with them.
Witness LK03 had a broken one in their room already.

I'll bet a dollar or two that whomever came up with this half brained, dimwitted idea didn't think far enough ahead to put in a supply of spare bottles and wall mounts to cover damage and wear & tear because of the cost involved to do so.
I'll not use them due to the potential for tampering and the likely hood of them becoming bacteria magnets.
Just because they're in a shower doesn't mean that they are clean, and the housekeepers are not going to spend a bunch of time giving each of those bottles a thorough cleaning between guests.

Do you think maybe they did this change over because most guests bring their own toiletries anyway?? They realized most people just took the little bottles home and most didn't use them onsite.

I always assumed everyone brought their own toiletries to hotels. I know no one in real life that uses hotel toiletries except maybe the hand soap. Until this thread (and the disboards in general) did a I realize how many people actually use the shampoo and conditioner.

I don't think at this point Disney will back down from something they have invested so much in publicity wise - reducing plastic ... even though I think that is likely not happening. These bottles are heavier plastic, plastic tubes and pump system and probably no savings on plastic vs the same amount of shampoo in smaller light plastic bottles. NOW they could be saving IF they are taking these bottles out, wiping them down and refilling them from large bulk aka wine in a box type things full of the product. But that also means we are greatly increasing the bacteria issue as you state.

The setup they have looks good compared to other hotels but it's not tamper-proof (see below), it is not truly saving plastics if each of these bottles are not refilled and it's not clean/bacteria free. When I removed the bottles there was standing water and soap scum behind them (we had not showered yet).

I think rather than Disney back off - at some point we will see removal of all toiletries other than bars of soap. It could become bring your own or purchase in gift shop at a reasonable rate. They win because they can claim they are not contributing to the plastic issue, they save lots of money and they make some money on those who don't bring. Folks will throw their arms up and a few days later be whatever just like they are with everything else.

Well for those inquiring minds ................... it will be absolutely no problem for someone to remove the bottles either to empty them out or to refill them with ......... something else ...... we did neither. They are as we found them.

Unless Housekeeping was inventorying the trash, how would they really know. Many folks are picky about their toiletries but many are not and appreciate not having to pack. I use the provided ones at some hotels because they are very nice brands. I never used the ones at the Disney hotels because I didn't like the product but did take them home to give as gifts to nieces.

All of those plastic dispensers are cheap plastic. The soap dispensers and paper towel holders are always breaking at my job. It just takes one or two more aggressive people with the them and snap, the cheap plastic breaks. We replace the soap dispensers several times a year.

The bottles cheapen the look of the bathroom to me. One of my tasks at my part time retirement era job is staging units at an upscale retirement community. We dress up vacant units for sales events. We use nice linens, shower curtains, accessories and both full size and individually wrapped small size soaps and bottles of hair and skin products. The individual sized ones are decorative and attractive. The mounted pump things Disney is using look institutional. Period. I wonder if that is the image Disney is really aiming for???

I used to bring my own products personally but it was a pain, due to TSA restrictions. I have used a owner’s locker bin since they went into business and that’s where I keep my products. When I run out, I purchase full size bottles and store the bottles in my owners locker. I think that is as environmentally conscious as you can hope to be.

I liked the grapefruit fragrance shower gel when Disney supplied that. Otherwise my husband and I use our own products.
