Article about DCL "reality" on Yahoo! "news"

The writer just graduated in 2017. Yes she is a millennial and I doubt she was ever on a cruise. She also seems to lack any real journalistic research skills. A high school newspaper has better articles.

ALL the other cruise lines have advertising that does not mirror reality. They all present the ideal.

What in advertising is 100% true? Not much. Just google preparing "food" for photography and commercials. It's almost never a legit, could-be-eaten food - the "milk" in cereal ads is glue, etc.

(Are you arguing with me? Because I'm pretty sure we are saying the exact same thing...)

P.s. I mentionned DCL because the article linked in the OP is about DCL.

No, not arguing. I only read you saying that the DCL advertising wasn't true-to-life. I was just going further that no cruise line or resort or hotel has true-to-life advertising.

The DCL commercial doesn't represent reality perfectly (Just take a look at Castaway Cays picture on the DCL website. I've never seen the family beach that empty). But it's like that for most products... They all polish reality/photoshop, etc. Don't blame DCL, blame marketing!

Ok, so we agree then.

I felt the same too when I read this "article"....my departure is 15 days away on my first cruise ever and I knew not all of that is 100% accurate. Heck, you can probably fabricate an article like that about WDW. About how crowded it is and how hot it gets in Orlando etc...seriously its not all doom and gloom.

Well can't wait to experience my first cruise!!!

Great attitude and wise not to believe such drivel! :thumbsup2 i saw the article headline yesterday on yahoo and didn't even open it as it smelled like another yahoo fabrication. I swear they are getting to be like the Enquirer. o_O You're going to LOVE your cruise! Have fun and bon voyage!! :sail:

Haha I few others beat me to calling this fake news. Yahoo has been going downhill for years. What a terrible article. It wouldn’t surprise me if the author hates WDW as well.

There was nothing false in the article. Pools are overcrowded, rooms are small, buffets are so-so, some people get sea sick, some people get noro virus, castaway gets crowded, you share ports with other ships. All of that is true. The author just left out the good things about Disney cruises. 99.9% of news articles are biased. In all fairness this was an opinion article not news.
It's your own fault for clicking on a yahoo story. You all should know better.

But Yahoo is my home page....:rotfl2:

I read this article this morning and I was looking for a comment section but didn't see one. It was a ridiculous article. The only thing that ran true was that the ads for DCL (and every other cruise line and hotel in the world) show the ship/resort in the least crowded, best light, which makes sense from a marketing perspective. SHOCKING! :confused3 Hey guess what, when they show pictures of the bathrooms they flush the toilets first - how dare they!!

I don't think it is a misrepresentation on DCL's part per se, but the funny thing is that the author then goes on to misrepresent things. The pirate buffet, they didn't show the actual food but the food sculpture, implying there is nothing to eat. Trust me, plenty of food on the buffets at DCl and all other cruise lines. And I agree with previous poster that they show a room with and without bunk beds, but make the 2nd picture look like it is a tiny room with only bunk beds, when it is the same room with a closeup of the bunk beds. Ridiculous.

I actually thought the shot of Castaway Cay didn't look that crowded.

And other cruise ships are docking in port too? WTH, how is that a Disney issue, or any issue at all? Breaking news- there are other people in the world?? So stupid!

Yahoo doesn't really do their own articles, they just link you to other places, and I think this was some sort of business magazine. It really did feel like some sort of presentation my 9th grader would do for a class project - but he has been on DCL for 9 cruises and loves it, so he would do a better job!!

Let’s not cast aspersions as to what the writer does or does not like.

it's not my homepage but I have two email accounts on Yahoo that are about 20 yrs old - as much as I loath what Yahoo! has become, it's tough to make the break!
I was only joking that it was my homepage :flower:but I agree that it’s difficult to take the plunge and go elsewhere. I had the same feeling when everyone was transitioning from MySpace to Facebook.

I was prepared for this to be another one like the NY Times travel article, which I actually liked because I'm a bit on the cynical side and empathized with ideas like Disney sometimes coming across as "enchanting but horrifying." But this article was just a dumb hack job.
