Central Park “Karen”

Update from Minneapolis:
We are all now on curfew. The rioting continues in the city proper but now the looting and violence has been speculated to move to the suburbs, based on social media.
Very scary here.
Not sure what the violence and destruction of fellow citizens property has to do with the issue with the LE.
Prayers are appreciated.
Thank you!
The problem with getting your news from social media can be that it just amplifies your fears and that of others around you. Neither your local newspapers or the national news are reporting much of anything happening in your area tonight.

There is still protesting going on in other cities throughout the nation though. A police car was burned in Atlanta tonight.

Stay safe and sleep well.

Oh my gosh, so not true. Are you dismissing the tragic situation we have going on?
Only a couple of things were reported on social media that I mentioned, so that is not it.
The local news stations have been on the air, all connected to the major networks, all evening.
We have blocks of burning buildings and thousands of people out in protest and continued violence and looting. Currently the PO, WF Bank, gas stations, local businesses.
I am thinking your resources are poor. Maybe look beyond your local news (east coast only) or maybe your local news doesn't carry much past their own local area.
I wish it is only one car being burnt.

You said you are getting your news from social media- direct quote. I attempted to alleviate your fears because when you initially posted I had a tab open to CBS Minnesota (as well as stations in Atlanta and Houston) and it was pretty quiet then. Didn't contradict you just tried to calm you down.
The entire country and much of the world is aware of your tragedies.
ETA: Apparently we are both listening to the same station.

No, I said I was getting a couple of reports from social media regarding looting and violence in our suburbs, a very small news point. Not the full picture as I stated.
I thank you for your efforts to 'calm me down' but seemed patronizing and it was based on poor knowledge, my perception is that it is dismissive.
It has been a bad situation all week long so nothing has been calm as you stated.
Thank you for your concern.

Guess it didn't work; I'm patronizing you, my knowledge is poor and I'm perceived by you as dismissive. Glad you were able to fit all that in in one sentence, LOL
You just can't be nice to some people 🤷‍♀️.

I have no idea where you’re from, but I don’t know anybody that doesn’t know this. It boggles my mind that you don’t know anyone that knows that the Nazis killed people other than Jews. And no, most of the people I know don’t have a “personal family connection” to people who were killed.

You would be amazed at how little people actually know about the war. Every single person that I have talked to in person had no idea that non-Jewish Poles were also killed and/or sent to the concentration camps. I have even come across people who thought that the Polish people were HELPING the Nazis to kill the Jews. Although YOU know more about the war, that does not mean that the everyone does. I am sure if you took a poll just on these boards, you will find plenty that had no knowledge that they sent non-Jews to the camps and just out right murdered them, or that they took people as slaves.

Amy "Karen" Cooper has been given the dog back. That poor dog. :sad1:

https://www.tmz.com/2020/06/04/central-park-karen-amy-cooper-gets-dog-back-called-cops-black-man/

"The animal rescue, Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue Inc., announced a vet determined the dog was perfectly healthy and -- after law enforcement refused to take the dog in their custody -- decided to return the dog at the owner's request. "

That poor pup. The Rescue is stupid they didn’t see her on the video?

Since the vet gave the dog a clean bill of health and the NYC law enforcement didn't think it was worth their time to even take the dog from them, they kind of said their hands were tied. :(

My hope for Amy Cooper is that she sees her behavior through fresh eyes and sees that she needs to change some things. I hope this leads to actual growth and change for her in how she treats her precious dog, and how she treats other people. I believe people's hearts can change, she may just have needed the knock down to see how horrible she has acted.

Based on screen shots of her dog's Instagram, he's been in jeopardy a frightening amount of times. Broken foot, almost drowned, choked on a walk, etc. It's really good that dog has been taken from her as well.
Some people seem to "enjoy" being the victim /always having some sort of a problem or imagining mistreatment by someone. This woman seems she might just be one of them.
In my now-legendary law enforcement career, I only met one psychopath. He wasn't especially weird or creepy, he just didn't see anything wrong with killing people. I think his total was 10...that we know of. He sat on Death Row for 34 years before being executed in 2014 I believe.
Yes, psychopath is a very, very strong word -- and doesn't seem to fit this woman.
I've been teaching for almost three decades, and pretty much everyone passes through the public school system. I've encountered only one student in all that time whom I think is genuinely a psychopath (and I don't know what became of him). He was cold, uncaring, had a lack of concern /connection that other students -- even downright mean kids -- don't have. It wasn't just that he had no sense of right and wrong; rather, he seemed to have no understanding that other people are people /that other people have feelings or matter.
Being a psychopath (or a sociopath) goes way beyond racism. Racists at least like "their own people", whereas psychopaths have "a disconnect" with literally the whole human population.
I've taught three students who went on to become murderers, and none of them had that same "cold, nothing trait".
Had she given a genuine apology and said she just had a really bad day and took it out on this innocent man, and reached out to him with some humility and asked for forgiveness maybe she would deserve some benefit of the doubt.
It's a rare situation that can't be mitigated with a genuine, heartfelt apology.
... It would have been so much easier if she just snapped the leash on the dog and kept walking.
Yeah, well, that's a rational thought! She doesn't seem to have been rational /doesn't seem to think the rules apply to her.
... Or that possible legal actions taken against this woman should be because “look what could have happened”.
Yes, she must be judged upon what actually happened /actual evidence -- not how we fear the situation could have escalated.
... But if her goal was to make sure that he would never get the chance to present his side of the case (i.e. show the video) because he's killed, then that's not much of a plan. ...
This attributes a great deal of forethought and planning to her actions. I think she just didn't like being "called out" for breaking a rule. I don't think she had some sort of long game /plan to hurt this man.
Almost every single person that I have talked to has said that they did not realize that non-Jewish Polish people were also sent to the camps or were just outright slaughtered. Many have no idea that people were taken as slaves. NOT ONE PERSON has known this. ...
Surely anyone who attended high school knows that mentally disabled people, gays, Jehovah's Witnesses, Catholic priests, Jewish sympathizers and several other groups were sent to the concentration camps in large numbers -- not just Jews.

I have not encountered a rescue where there wasn't something in the adoption contract about them having the right to take back the dog if you broke any of the conditions of the adoption (proper feeding, using HW preventative, never chaining, etc). Every contract I have ever seen includes failing to abide by leash laws (most even say not having the dog off leash outside of a fenced area). So, in this case even if the dog had not been injured the rescue would still be within their rights to keep him.

If this rescue did not have such a clause in their contract, I'm sure they will add one now.

AND, just regular people. My great grandfather and great uncle were sent to the camps for no reason. My grandmother's aunt and young cousins were one of those gathered in the center of town and shot down. See, this is my point. NO ONE knows that just regular people were all killed, sent to camps, experimented on, etc. All of the same things that all of those people that you listed were. This is what everyone needs to know.

LOL. Good luck with that!

Amy Cooper is not the kind of person who could ever do anything improper. Her first words as an infant were not "Mommy" or "Daddy." Her first words were, "It's NOT MY fault!"

:sad1: Yes @okeydokey - that must be the hope. And if nobody and nothing can ever change, what's the point of the entire world rising up in support of BLM, or for anything else really? Things need to change; people's hearts, attitudes and actions MUST change - it can't be legislated.

My hope for Amy Cooper is that she gets together with Anthony Brennan and they go live in a hut together on a desert island. I think they're perfect for each other.

I remember adopting one dog from a local humane society shelter. My dad actually went to get the dog, but I ended up reading the contract. They supposedly had the right to come to our residence at any time without notice, including the right to enter the property at any time with implied permission to do so. Of course they had the discretion to reclaim our dog at any time.

We actually neglected getting a county/city dog license for about a year, which was a requirement in the contract. Our dog had a habit of bolting out the door to explore the neighborhood and coming back, until one time our dog picked up by county animal control. There was no identification other than the tag placed by the humane society. Animal control got our contact information from that and we picked up our dog, but had to pay a fine (maybe around $20) for having an "animal at large" and pay the licensing fee, which required a rabies vaccination. The fine was the same cost as failure to license. However, the human society must have found out that we violated a few terms of our contract but they never made an attempt to reclaim our dog.

I have zero hope( or desire) to change people's hearts are attitudes. I do however, want actions and laws to change.

You(general you)can hate black people all you want. As long as you aren't in a position of power(education, politics, law enforcement...) I don't care.

Gee, thanks for that benefit of the doubt. :rolleyes1

It DOES matter though - people’s attitudes matter. There already are laws against all the hate-fuelled, evil acts that are being committed by miscreants with twisted minds and dark hearts.
