We probably wouldn't have the Dream and Fantasy, if they'd built the others. Glad they waited.Wow.. I guess I've learned something new today. Thanks for posting this truck1.
I'm assuming Disney shelved these ships because they assumed that travel markets would take a dive after 9/11 (and they did).
One can only assume what these ships would've looked like.
Those numbers are all over the place. 707 and 708 are being delivered in 2018 and 2019 respectively and there's no 717... yet.http://www.meyerwerft.de/media/pdfs/pdf/003_RL_Kreuzfahrtschiffe_12022020_4c_Pfade_TNSE..pdf
This should answer all questions about yard numbers. I guess this document is the source for the Disney ships’ yard numbers. And as you can see, all numbers are accounted for by Papenburg ships. Turku still has their own number system.
Also interesting, the new Disney ships will be 4 meters longer than the Dream class, but hold the same number of passengers. I wonder if that's just some more complex stabilizers or if there will be 4 extra meters of length that passengers would see?
Also from the shipbuilder's website about the DCL ships, it says, "All ship names, design plans and itineraries are still in development, with each of the ships expected to have their own unique experiences." Sounds like the ships won't just be copies of each other, but who knows?
