No One Loses Weight Like Gaston - November 2015 W.I.S.H Challenge

What are some tips/tricks you use to manage your portions?
Is portion control a big challenge for you? Are you a 'must clear my plate' type of person?

My eyes are bigger than my stomach for sure. Sometimes I'll try to fit it in, but not always. I do it every time. I haven't always had enough to eat when I was little or as I got older there was food but all the "good" food or prize left overs would disappear overnight so that's a byproduct of that. Now I live alone so I'll do a smaller portion and as I'm eating it I'll always think wow I should have taken more, but I listen to my hunger level more than those other thoughts. By the time I'm done eating I'm full.

So I guess my tip would be don't mindlessly eat.

Question of the Day - November 19

Let's talk... Portion Control.
As we're one week away from Thanksgiving in the USA, it may be the right time to talk Portion Control. Belle is obviously thinking: "A little sample here, a little sample there.... what could possibly go wrong?" Unfortunately small samples add up to BIG CALORIES and often we do more damage than we think to our progress and waistlines. (Also - shame on Belle. She's eating with her fingers - eww!)

What are some tips/tricks you use to manage your portions?
Is portion control a big challenge for you? Are you a 'must clear my plate' type of person?

For when I am home, my measuring cups and food scale are my portion control 90% of the time. I weigh/measure the majority of the foods I eat.... especially anything particularly calorie dense like peanut butter, salad dressing, oil, etc.

For holiday eating I've learned to take a wee bit of EVERYTHING that looks appealing (which for me usually does NOT mean turkey or potatoes or stuffing.... too boring for me). And if it is great I can go back for another small portion... and if it isn't great, I haven't wasted much. I HATE food waste, so this is a big thing for me. But I've learned to "waste" it rather than "waist" it!!

Then I try to either sit and chat with family or start helping with the dishes.... it keeps me from going back for seconds (or thirds  ).

THIS!!!!! ALL OF THIS!!!!!! And at least for me I would have to add in the whole "starving kids around the world" guilt I was inundated with as a child. And our Southern tradition of frying things...... seriously, I am just now as a grown person having to cook for myself and my husband learning how to cook without oil....

On that note though, holidays are the one time of year my whole family shows out and cooks Georgia's finest. And living in the lost burrough of New York (Boca Raton), I don't ever get good southern food unless it is the holidays. So I usually eat what I want and enjoy. The good/bad news is I will not be going to my family's Thanksgiving this year (first year ever....), we will be going to DH's family. In my experience, they aren't the cooks that my family is, so fortunately I think this year will be a good year for portion control. Also, I want to get in a long walk/jog before we even go to their house so I know I was active and staying on track that day. Last year I did a "gratitude yoga" Thanksgiving morning and it felt like a different day by shifting my mindset away from the food and onto the purpose. If they offer that this year, I am going to do that instead of a walk to get my mindset right!

I adore the idea of gratitude yoga!

I'll keep trying to catch up!..........P

I love the holidays -- maybe incorporate all the winter holidays?

Good idea!

TWO Weeks from today, I'll be in WDW for my first December trip! So looking forward to seeing my happy place all decked out for the holidays! This time in 2 weeks, I'll be queing up for the Candlelight Processional with Neil Patrick Harris as narrator.Woo Hoo!

So jealous you get to see NPH! My absolute FAVORITE WDW Christmas parade was the one with NPH at the start.... DD and I watch it on youtube at random times just to make us smile!!

Hmmmm... Could it be a general winter theme (Belle's Enchanted Christmas, Mickey Christmas Carol, Muppet Christmas Carol, Star Wars Christmas Special, general Disney-characters-in-wintery-outfits - all acceptable wintery Disney options that don't involve Frozen :rotfl::rotfl:), with appreciation for each December holiday shown on the appropriate day? Is that too much? Haha. Walkin' in a Weight Loss Wonderland!

OOHHHH!! Loving those ideas!!!

My WOOHOO for today - changed my hair color! It's one of my favorite things to do, haha, but I took some serious time off due to the wedding. Now that that's over, I can be a little adventurous again! I tried out a new technique today, which was an absolute pain in the you-know-what, but I love the results. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks and then some purple may find it's way in there, too.

Also, we're hopefully decorating our Christmas tree tonight! We usually wait til Black Friday, but I have so many new Disney ornaments I want to put up, I just don't want to wait any longer! Haha.

PICTURES of the hair and the tree please!!

Psshhh. Everything must be Frozen. It's the Disney way! ;) (kidding!)

Seconding the Star Wars theme. With The Force Awakens coming out mid-december, it'll be amazing.

I'm sure there is a pun or two we can make out of Han Solo, Leia and/or Luke.

Loving the SW ideas and suggestions!

I'm game for any or all winter holidays/wonderland/non-Frozen-ness as well:rotfl: We celebrate two winter holidays in my family anyway so no preferences on that front! But Star Wars is definitely a great idea!

Woohoo! That's wonderful! Our Dec trips never align to see him sadly. Have fun!

I'm totally on board with avoiding Frozen..... love the movie and the songs.... but enough already!

Going to call myself caught up for now~! TTY later...................P

Friday Fun - Disney Discussion

On Friday's, we take a break from weight-loss and healthy discussions to focus on the fun things: Disney!

You've been hired by Disney to create a new attraction based upon existing Disney movies/shows/media/etc.
1- What is the attraction? Tell us a little about it. Is it from a movie, tv show, or something else?
2- What park(s) would this attraction go in?
3 - Bonus: Why did you choose this attraction?

Wouldn't it be fun to have an attraction based upon Wall-E? I'd love if we got to sit in modified versions of the floaty chairs and follow Wall-E and Eve on their adventure to recapture their 'directive'. Something along the lines of what Ratatouille is in Paris, but basically you sit in a floaty chair and go through scenes in the movie.

There's so much unused space in EPCOT, so maybe somewhere in future world?

Cute question! I think a Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride done in the style of the Harry Potter's Forbidden Journey would be awesome! I think the Dumbo rip off magic carpets at MK are a joke.... But with the simulator like technology and the way the HP ride is designed, it really makes you feel like you are flying. They could do this with any movie with flying really! This sort of fantasy-esque ride would fit well in Magic Kingdom.

I still want the long-rumored Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster to come to Pixar Place at DHS. But, I would go one step further with it and somehow make it like Horizons in that at a certain point, you get to choose what door you go through, thus changing the ride from that point forward. I think the only real way to make that happen, though, is to do it as a simulator, and then it's just a replica of Sum of All Thrills, and I'd like to avoid duplicating rides if at all possible. I just think there are SO MANY different things that could be done within Pixar Place - it doesn't have to be 100% Toy Story. I also think DHS is the one park that can be more of an adult/thrill-ride heavy park. The others already have established personalities that don't have much room for a thrill-heavy focus.

I totally want a ride based on Inside Out; there is such potential for this to be entertaining and informative! I envision a dark ride, starting in Headquarters, travelling inside a Memory on an omnimover track, visiting each of Riley's Personality Islands, and through selections made similar to Spaceship Earth, ending in a new Personality Island. This would clearly go in Pixar Place in DHS. This attraction, as its movie source, brings such an important subject to children in a manner they can understand and enjoy.

REPORT- Attended my weekly WW meeting , so at 75% goal ( This week, I stayed the same which is a bit disheartening as I maintained my 26 points. I rarely use any of the weekly points or activity points, since my wt loss is so slow on the 26 points. When I have a week where I haven't lost wt, it's usually followed by a big wt loss, but I don't think my weigh-in on Black Friday will show a big loss!)

This meeting was an eye-opener -- counting all the points of a typical Thanksgiving meal and then modifying the meal - decreasing portion sizes, no cranberry sauce, baked sweet pot instead of candied sweet, etc) Even with the modifications, the meal came to 33 points! Now, that did include dessert -- but no wine or biscuits. We're hosting (love Thanksgiving -- this will be our 30th year hosting!), so I'll be including steamed broccoli and a spinach salad. I'll just be having those with turkey -- and wine.

Well.... this is a TOUGH one! I am a Tangled/Rapunzel fan and other than the lovely bathrooms in Fantasyland at the MK, it is very under-represented. Maybe a counter service restaurant based on the Ugly Duckling tavern? But Bambi is a beautiful movie with adorable characters and it is another very under-represented movie.

I find it funny that one of the most popular rides at the MK are based on a movie that MANY, MANY people (even hard and fast Disney lovers) have never seen! Song of the South! I've seen it, I own it (don't ask) and it is a good movie..... but obviously it shows that it doesn't have to be a hugely popular movie to have a great ride!

Honestly.... I have NO idea what I would build!!

FUN!! And definitely in FUTURE WORLD!!

OH YES! Great idea! That HP ride is terrific!

I had totally forgotten about that new(er) movie!

Mmmmm.... wine! If you are hosting I'm guessing you'll be too busy to overindulge!

Hey friends! Here I am with a day to myself!! Trying to be productive with some cooking (of course), catching up on laundry (per usual), and perhaps getting a few things done ahead of time in order to have a slightly more relaxing holiday season!

DD comes home TWO WEEKS from today!! I have missed her so much, but I'm sad for her that her experience in Bermuda is ending so quickly!

So much to do here today, so I'm going to dash and be busy! TTY soon.................P

Weigh in today - down 2.5 pounds this week. I'm glad the scale was kind because I felt like I had a great week with working out and eating on track. I'm at 100% to goal for this month. Fingers crossed that I can maintain it through next week!

Week 3: Weigh In

Pounds lost: 4.5 of 6
Percentage of Goal: 75%

Biiiiiig weight loss this week. Lost 2.5 pounds and am just 5 pounds away from my goal weight. What.

Today is the Nordstrom Rack 10 point cardholder event - so I guess it's time to go shopping? :cool1:

Hey friends! Just popping on to see how it's going. How is your Saturday/weekend shaping up?

I just posted 18 listings on Ebay (phew... it took FOREVER) and another one on a local FB group.... two loads of laundry on the line, lunch eaten and cleaned up. Time to walk before the sun starts sinking!

I'll bbl to check in!.................P

Checking in. Somehow I managed to get myself together this week. I'm now at 50% of my weight loss goal!! I might not reach that full 10 lbs off but I'm super excited about the 5 I have dropped.

Hey all! I took a nice 60 minute hike in the woods behind my house... much more fun than just a walk! But I had to be pretty careful because it is hunting season (which I conveniently forgot when I set out but remembered when I heard gunshots!).

Laundry is off the line, folded, and put away, DH decided it was a cheat day for him (he hasn't had one in a long time..... but I'm surprised he picked a cheat day just 5 days from Thanksgiving..... but whatever), so that will be dinner for the men. I'll probably pull out some frozen soup for myself. I need to be dressed and decent looking and out the door by 5:45 to man the robotics team bake sale at the high school tonight.

Have a great evening all!...................P

Still in the funk, working on it. Dusted off a WATP DVD yesterday and forced myself to do it. Off to go Christmas shopping today. Forgot, truly forgot to WI on Friday, I guess keeping my scale in the drawer isn't helping, there is not good place for it

This month I have successfully cut way back on alcoho, but I haven't really lost anything.

Holiday strategy for me is as someone just posted previously, small portions of what looks Devine. Skip this potatoes, I could care less about potatoes and I don't eat much bread either.

Bundle up baby it's cold outside!

Weigh in for the week was a loss but not as good as I hoped for. 68% towards my goal. I wasn't as active this week and the scale showed as such. This coming week is the tough week though.... But I've just got to keep moving to keep that scale moving!

Checking in at 201.4 this morning. Unfortunately still over my start weight for the month and thus less than 0%.

At least I'm holding on to overweight! Off to make the final Thanksgiving shopping list so I can hopefully be out of the store by 10:00 tomorrow morning!

1. Super fun! I want a Little Mermaid themed coaster in the style of Universal's Revenge of the Mummy. Probably starting with exploring the shipwreck and then getting wild and crazy at the end with the shark chase. It could also be fun to dodge the chef in the Les Poisson scene!

2. I want it at one of the California parks because I like them so much more than Florida. However, I would also accept a duplicate in either DHS or the MK. I'm not really in support of the movie-ication of Epcot but the current state of the World Showcase makes me so sad that I would make an exception and be OK with the culinary version of the ride going in the France pavilion.

3. Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie and Revenge of the Mummy is my favorite coaster (as a ride chicken who likes to pretend she is tough).
