X-Rated Wedding Reception

A Buzzfeed article about non-traditional weddings included this gem:

"We told our DJ that we insisted on explicit tracks being played at our reception — we'd already put a disclaimer on our invitation that said, 'We love your kids, but we didn't invite them."

Not inviting kids is fine. Insisting on songs with explicit lyrics, hmmmm. No thanks.

Did they show porn films and have strippers too?

I'm hoping they are talking about just insisting that the original version of songs is played instead of the radio edits. On all of my streaming music apps, I have the explicit lyrics option turned on, I don't want to hear beeped out, muted, or edited versions.

I didn't read the article so I don't know that's what they mean. Maybe they truly only wanted songs that had explicit lyrics. They know their friends best I guess. Should be a heck of a party :)

Since when does not wanting kids at your wedding/reception equate to having skanky song lyrics played? People aren't going to get the connection. The invitation should read "we didn't invite children because we are insisting on playing raunchy songs at the reception".

That's one way to get parents to leave their kids home without family arguments.
But, some adults would want to skip it too.

That's how I interpreted it, too. The article doesn't say anything beyond the quote in the first post.

The article is just a list of reader submissions. The bold quote in the first post is the entirety of the submission. Nothing more is explained. But to me it shouts "we're so edgy we had to announce this."

Funny I read that more as a reflection on their guests than the couple themselves.
What I see is a couple who expects some entitled guests to bring their uninvited kids and then complain that the music is not family friendly.
Just giving them fair warning and letting those people know they don't have a leg to stand on in that case.

I did go back and read the article, funny list. People are weird.
Don't they know we need more information about them to be able to gossip in an informed manner?!?! ;)

So how exactly are you finding articles such as this? ;)

These types of articles seem to find me. ;)

It's from Buzzfeed, which is almost total superficial and trivial nonsense. I go there several times a week for some laughs.

While the poster indicated no children on the invitation, it wasn't clear if there was any notice on the type of music that would be played.

Good luck to the couple I went to a wedding were the couple required no kids and guess what there were still kids there

I think that the entire thing is ridiculous. The disclaimer on the wedding invitation is offensive and the fact you need to place a warning about your music is questionable, IMO.

Several years ago we attended my DH bosses dd wedding J&J. It was lovely until the DJ went to town. He played music that the younger set loved, however there were a lot of kids (totally welcomed) and older friends and relatives. MOB asked the DJ to play different music and he downright refused. FOB had to step in before MOB flattened the DJ and explain that MOB was the one signing the check. Change the music. He did...one song. Most of us gave up and went home. MOB was furious and fired them from the wedding.

Maybe they chose explicit songs to chase away Aunt Sally and other people they felt obligated to invite but really didn't want there.

There was a thread a few years ago with a post about a couple playing nothing but Death Metal music after dinner to clear the room of "undesirables."

I don't know how explicit the songs were. An occasional curse word in a song is fine, but if it was a steady stream of raunchy lyrics I'd probably leave.
