    Auntie Em….Auntie Em!!!

That is what we were saying at one point, "At least we aren't shoveling it!" Today's weather was absolutely insane at times. Thankfully, we kept power other than a brief blip. After school activities were canceled and supposedly downed trees and power lines were preventing some students from...

you get banned from the last shop you went to , where are you now banned from?

Dollar Store. I think I can survive that hit. I rarely go there, but my son needed 3x5 cards for Latin and they were close by. There are far worse places I could have been banned from, like Costco or Market Basket or Trader Joe's.

    What’s your favorite soup?

My favourite is the Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli Soup created by Jessica Rudolph and put out by America's Test Kitchen. It can be found in the October/November 2022 issue of Cook's Country magazine. (Copies are usually available through digitally through your library if they have Libby or other...

I need a new board game

Project L was the best game that I have played in years. It can take up to four people and is the game I would rescue from a burning building or take to a deserted island as long as I had someone to play with. Highly recommend! We also enjoy Splendor and have the Cities of Splendor expansion...

    How Prepared Are You?

It is a constant struggle. Do I overload on food now, so I can afford to lose a few pounds when crisis hits and food becomes scarce, or do I hit the gym regularly, so I can outrun the zombies?

    How Prepared Are You?

For something like a global pandemic, like what we just went through, we are fairly prepared. Our freezers and fridges are always full and we carry a full pantry of items (flour, pasta, rice, canned tomatoes, oils, toilet paper, laundry detergent, hygiene items, etc.) at all times, with at least...

Costco, BJs, Sam's Club - Do You Have a Preference (Discussion)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2017, I wrote this when someone else asked "Costco or Bj's?" I think my experience very much mimics your own. Not too much has changed, surprisingly.

Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

We could just go to Disney and all eat at Liberty Tree Tavern. (Don't they serve a turkey dinner year round?) It would be the exact same thing. There is literally no difference (in my mind) between the two holidays as far as the celebration (i.e. food/family) part goes. The differences are more...

Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

I tend to describe Canadian Thanksgiving to Americans who ask as "American Thanksgiving minus the Pilgrims". I see Thanksgiving as people sharing food. It doesn't matter what is served. What is important is that the holiday brings people together and there isn't anything better than that. Our...

You guys seem to have a lot of secret recipes in your family. It seems to me that you had a secret black and white cookie recipe as well. I'm picturing some kind of vault in your kitchen...the ones with the big wheel on the front that takes two hands to open. It is marked simply "Top Secret...

This cracks me up for some reason...the whole idea of this dish being passed around the table that nobody really likes, but that keeps coming back year after year. My MIL always makes a lime Jello salad thing for holiday gatherings. It has lime Jello, pineapple, and whipped cream. My husband...

Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

Have we talked about Thanksgiving dishes in the past? Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up and I'm curious what unique foods find their way to people's tables. In our family, with some Norwegian roots, in addition to the turkey, stuffing, gravy and mashed potatoes, we always had lefse. I struggle...

What are your interests? jigsaw puzzles modern board and card games cross-stitching reading anything to do with food (reading about food, cooking food, kitchen gadgets, eating out/trying new things) apps (i have lots of little bits of downtime where I play quick games on my iPad while I wait)...

What is on your Christmas list?

Oh! You are so sweet to offer to buy me a gift! I'm partial to food/kitchen items or jigsaw puzzles, but honestly, anything non-soccer related will be fine.

What to do with leftover meatballs?

To chime in, we also either freeze leftover meatballs or use them in meatball subs, BUT...we also like to cut/break them up and put them on pizza. The marinara on the meatballs just goes right along with the pizza sauce on the pizza and mini meatballs are often a pizza topping that is...

Spinoff: What Street Did You Grow Up On?

Ha ha!!! Yeah...we were 20 minutes outside the city (almost always give directions in terms of travel time!) and then 1 mile east and 4 miles north of the service station...second farm on the right...big white barn. The service station was the "sign." Those were the actual directions we gave people.

I'll see your gravel road and raise you a DIRT road. It was aptly named "The Old Dirt Road," though there was no sign.

I am up to date on most of the popular American artists. I do keep a list separate from my Canadian list, but I honestly thought YOU were in charge of the US playlist...ha ha!
