Yeah, lots of weird stuff in that episode. Some is redeemable but I have lost much confidence that the writers will pull it off. The first 20 minutes or so of the show was great and the last hour, not so much.
Dany and her troops again prove they are the WORST army evah. You fly both dragons in broad daylight around never expecting that they might have developed some sort of weapon to shoot them down? They've know for months you are coming with them. I get they needed to kill off another dragon to even the odds up more, but then just let Rhaegal die last week as it appeared he did. That was a far better way to kill him off and made more sense. Because why in the heck once exposed would Dany not just circle Drogon around to the back of Euron's fleet and torch them? Hello? Dragons can fly and those ships could not turn around quickly enough to re-position those crossbows. Done. Stupid, again.
Of course, Cersei would have killed Dany and her paltry little group of Unsullied. More stupidity.
I was okay with the Jamie/Brianne thing. A nice bit of fan service there. Who would ever buy them as living happily ever after? And I think it's pretty obvious Jamie is heading off to kill Cersei. I don't see Jamie making it out of this show alive.
I swear if they don't give Arya some kind of scene using her faceless man skills I'm going to be really irritated. They spent an entire season with her gaining that skill and with the exception of the incredibly satisfying end of Walder Frey, has she used it at all? I'm mostly hoping she kills Cersei disguised as Jamie or Tyrion.
I don't care at all who ends up on the Iron Throne. Who would want it? I'm still wondering if we don't find out Tyrion is a Targaryen and maybe he ends up on the throne. I'd be happy enough with that.
I did enjoy seeing Gendry getting legitimized and getting Storm's End and the potential for Bronn to get Highgarden. Bronn's speech about all the great houses getting started with a hard bastard was nice and a think a likely nod to how much of this will wind up.
Lastly, I was initially irritated they didn't show the scene with Bran telling Sansa and Arya about Jon's lineage, but I'm hoping against hope that there's some kind of secret plot or something that happened during that conversation that they deliberately are keeping from us. I just have to believe that Bran plays some bigger role in all of this and I have to believe there is some new birth to the Night King and White Walkers. Please, writers, surprise us.
